Driving in Manual Mode

Just wondering if being in Sport Mode and driving in Manual Mode do any harm to the car. Seems like i used quite a bit of gas today in manual mode between driving to work and going to lunch as comparred to not using manual mode at all. I have a 2011 35i with the M Sport Package. If it does no harm then i will probably keep it in sport and manual all the time, the power is great but wanted to check with the experts out here in Z4 land...

if it caused any harm then you wouldn't be able to do it.

it will be less efficient in fuel consumption than letting the ecu decide the best gear.
there will be times when you won't be able to get certain gears, if the rev range is wrong. ...so you won't be able to downshift from 5 to 1 when at 70mph for example. ...but you are unlikely to need to do this.

but remember you will use up a lot more fuel than having it in Normal mode.
