Driverside Window help :?

So today my driverside window has started playing up... it drops and raises as normal when opening the door or operating the roof, but responds erratically to the switch. It’s seems to go down fine, but trying to get the window back up is a challenge!! It judders and stutters until it gets to about 1/4 of the way up - and then it goes up as expected. But again, when down, the switch seems unresponsive but I CAN hear the windows trying to do something.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the regulator has gone and needs replacing.
The cables fray and rust and bugger up the pulley.
Not a problem i have encountered yet but plenty others on here have.

I had the same problem, horrid grinding noise and then nothing. Had to open the door before opening and closing the roof. It was a simple enough job to replace the regulator and mech. I had to cut the cables on the old one as it had snapped inside the door and I couldn't get to the rear bolt to release the glass as the window wouldn't slide upwards. Its a bit fiddly to get the new one in and you might need to leave the door panel off while you ensure it aligned in the correct place. My first attempt left a gap which whistled nicely whilst driving along. Also having an extra pair of hands to hold the window whilst you tightening the bolts is very handy!

I'm not necessarily convinced this is a cable issue.... I was trying the switch again today.... it goes down fine, either holding the switch or using the one-touch function. The problem is ONLY going back up. There's no noise at all, no grinding, no bang, nothing. It just does nothing. Eventually after using the switch multiple times, it will start to go up, but it goes up like 1cm then stops. I have to repeatedly try the switch and eventually it goes up another 1cm ish. If, however, I click the switch for the one-touch up, the window WILL do all the way up without problem. It's just getting it to go up at the first stage of the switch press. That being said, if the window is fully down, the one-touch function does nothing either.... it has to have at least moved up a fraction before the one-touch will work.

Is this really going to be the cable? Could it be the motor? Or perhaps the switch? Anyone experienced the same symptoms?
