Drivers' Top Pet Peeves (from PH)

i always say thanks. its the odd idiot that makes me think, why do i bother.

its the same with indicators, over the last couple of months it seems less and less people use them. im no saint when im driving but i do like to know when a car is moving around or potentially into the side of me

People who dont acknowledge or say thanks when you let them out. I could get out and punch them in the face, it annoys me that much.

Middle lane drivers do my nut in aswell

Where the hell is people driving slower than the speed limit??!! It causes me to do - 1. Tailgating, 3. Dangerous overtaking and 8. Undertaking

I can't pick the worst one from that list they all bring out the foul mouth in me.

+1 :- Similar to what I was going to say - that middle lane hogging or outside lane hogging are the reason people undertake, tailgate etc.

Really irritates me when people straight line roundabouts seemingly trying to take out any car in the right lane, or don't indicate left off the roundabout when you're waiting to join.

I'll add to that people that ignore an obstruction on their side of the road and charge through regardless of whether they have priority or not - typically done by following through the car in front, who's doing it to the one in front of them (repeat ad infintum until you threaten to drive head first in to one of them!)

ETA: And another one:- people on duallies & m-ways that cruise up into your blind spot or alongside you and just lurk there, seemingly happy just to block you and making no attempt to actually overtake.

And another, people (generally old ones) who do 40mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit. They're usually the ones that cruise through a town at 40mph oblivious to any hazards then gesticulate wildly and beep & flash when you rocket past them in an NSL where they're still doing 40.

A few years ago I was riding around with friends in and around glasgow and I was amazed at how polite the drivers were in general compared to here. We seem to have different rules over here.

Rule #1. Don't let anyone get in front of you, for any reason.
Rule #2. If someone signals to change lanes, immediately close up the gap so they can't get in front of you (See rule #1)
Rule #3. If someone manages to get in front of you, start tailgating them and flashing your hi-beams until they move over so you can get in front of them.

Please note that in Alberta we are NOT the worst drivers in North America, some other states/provinces are actually worse.

What about drivers speeding up when you have started to o/take them which annoys me +all of the original 10

x 3 - drives me nuts! Even more so when I pass someone in an NSL, then after I reach a 30 and slow down for kids, pets and old people they catch up again and tailgate!

Also some around letting people out...
1. If I'm letting you out of a junction, GET ON WITH IT
2. Doesn't mean you then need to let out everyone you meet to I end up 20 cars back from where I started
3. If approaching a green traffic light don't let people out to turn right, they will get a go when the light goes red!

I think I need a week in a spa or something* :x

* Track days!

I was walking through Heathrow the other day and it just struck me as totally weird - everyone but everyone was staring down intently at this stupid little gadget in their hand as if their very life depended on it - each and every one of them was in a little world of their own...I tell you, alien hypnosis couldn't have done a better job. It just struck me as pathetic to be honest.

If I didn't have to have a company phone I wouldn't have one - its how the green lizards are gonna take youz all over!! LOL

True Story: My wifes A6 was struck from behind (very lightly) at a traffic light. she got out and and a young girl was the culprit. The girl was on her cellphone and she got out of her car, they exchanged information and as there was no noticeable damage my wife and the young girl got back into their cars and left. AT NO TIME in the entire episode did the girl hang up the phone or even stop her conversation to whoever she was yapping with. :headbang: :headbang:

and our government thinks they need to think a while longer before enacting legislation to control "mobile" phone use while driving.
They won't be our govt much longer.....

Imagine if at that precise moment you could have clicked your fingers and turned off all the phone networks  they would have been in tears :D

Is it not illegal over there yet then? Fine and licence points here as you probably know!

And @GAZA62, I so want one of those jamming devices but I'm too tight to invest!

We (Alberta) were one of the first provinces to bring it up and we are probably going to be the last one to do anything about it. Everyone, and I do mean everyone is screaming about getting some legislation put in place and our Prov Gov. is stalling and stalling. I think the premier has a hidden agenda , possibly a nagging wife or pack of teenagers at home , I'm not sure. Nothing is happening here any time soon because most of the govt is pi*sing around in Vancouver at the Olympics. I expect hands-free only to be coming soon but it may take an election to get it. :x

Note: All the Provinces have slightly different laws for various things including some traffic legislation. We are like a bunch of little kingdoms inside a bigger kingdom.

Yeah slow drivers lead me to tailgate. I then realize I'm doing it and try to back off. Generally though I catch back up at the next corner. For the love of all that is good and holy, check your f'n mirrors. If you see 1 car on your bumper or even steadily behind you (obviously they do if it's a pet peeve) then your going slower than the driver, pull over the next lay by and let the w***er go by, if he want's to drive faster than you let him, safer than having him behind you up your butt.

Don't get me started about some folk that do 80 on the crappiest bumpiest farm roads in the UK yet get on a very nice smooth B road and putt along at 40 when it's in an unrestricted (60) zone. (bugger made me late for work thanks to stupid base restrictions on passing)

My biggest pet peeve lately is drivers not dimming their lights and/or having very very bright lights. I'm now to the point where if their brights are on my brights stay on until I see their lights dim. Fog lights are kinda annoying, but rarely do those dazzle me.

I hate when people don't move to the left on the motorways too.

My pet peeve, the armpits who come from the slip road into the inside lane no matter what traffic is there!
