Drivers side Xenon out...

Hi,

After messing about fitting some 25ohm resistors to stop the dash warning light coming on since fitting my LED indicators (all working fine now thank goodness..!) my drivers side Xenon doesn't come on.

I thought it may have been a D2S bulb that had gone so ordered some 6000k HIDs from t'internet but after replacing the pair, the drivers side one still doesn't come on.

My question is, are left & right independently fused..? I've had a look in the fusebox and seen that fuse 14 (5A), 21 (5A), 59 (40A) and 60 (40A) refer to lighting circuits but that's as in-depth as the fuse card explains. I took a gamble and swapped both 40A fuses over in the hope the fault transferred to the passenger side Xenon but no luck.

Any ideas, other than to suggest swapping ballasts? (reluctant to do this tonight as my knees and hands hurt from the struggle this afternoon  )

Cheers
- Andy

Glad you got the LED's and resistors sorted.

Well you've named the first thing I would have pointed to in my search for a problem. Bulbs rarely fail and should outlast the car, but the ballast do, or might not be well connected to the light unit.

Sadly it's a bumper cover off, but having said that I wonder if you can get to the 3 torx that hold it on through the lower foglight access panel??

Thanks - have to work myself up for that..! I seem to remember you detailed a "how-to" for bumper removal, I'll have a look. Might be a good opportunity to dry out my headlights with a hair dryer and reseal properly I suppose (*trying* to put a positive spin on it).

So, there definitely aren't separate fuses for L & R xenons though..? Just a thought... saw something on an Alfa forum that mentioned one model with xenons were that's all.

Any idea how much replacement ballasts would cost? Do they need to be paired?

Never looked if there is a separate left and right light circuit, but I doubt it. If the sides and indicator both work I can't imagine it being fuse. There's a fuse diagram somewhere on the board.
Pulling the front off is easy, but the tricky bit is getting panel gaps correct to the light, so mark it's position really carefully before you disturb things.
OEM Ballasts are real expensive. I'd try ebay or a breakers yard

I've had a look on realOEM.com and it appears the control unit is the expensive part, where-as the "ignitor" is a bit more reasonable - and that's the bit that twists onto the back of the HID lamp so I can try swapping that first with the left before I delve behind the bumper.

02 CONTROL UNIT XENON LIGHT 2 63126907488 $434.12
03 IGNITION ELEMENT XENON-LIGHT 2 63126907489 $90.68

Thanks for the pointers though, I'll let you know how I get on..!

For sure - that's a quick and easy left to right swap to eliminate one more thing. Lights off though else you'll tazer yourself.....,but at least you'd know if a high voltage was getting to the bulb

Yes - I was referring to part 2 in the diagram that's real expensive and fitted to the inderside of the light
