Drivers side windscreen wiper stopped working

Hi guys just driving in the rain with both wipers on and suddenly the drivers side wiper stopped working. The passenger side kept going. Luckily I was just pulling in to my house as it happened. The drivers side wiper feels all floppy compared to the passenger side which feels rigid. So at the base of the wiper there is a large bolt with a dust cover on it. I pulled the dust cover off and tried tightening the bolt with a spanner to see if that worked but it felt pretty tight as it was and I felt like I couldn’t tighten it much more. Anyone any idea if there is a fairly easy fix or will I need to book it in somewhere? I’m Based in Northampton

It's probably best to remove the 2 nuts holding the wipers on and then taking the scuttle panel off to see the lineage and motor underneath.

Most like it'll be something to do with a build up of grease in or on the motor.

It's the linkage popping off because it worn. You can pop it back on but it will happen again. If you do a search on here they're some posts about special clips you can buy on ebay etc to stop it happening. I followed this advice with mine and its been fine now for quite a while

Hi, if the wiper arm feels floppy & disconnected then it’s probably worn balljoints on the linkage that have failed.
You can get a spring steel fitting that clips the worn joint together for a few quid on eBay or pay a kings ransom for a new linkage from bmw :o

Think you need to get a set of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-E85-E86-Windscreen-Wiper-Motor-Linkage-Repair-Clip-x-3-Complete-Kit/252772088139?fits=Plat_Gen%3AE85&epid=2075389334&hash=item3ada63f94b:g:bpUAAOSwOgdYpF0o&frcectupt=true

Haven't used mine yet but at that price I've a set in the glove box just in case.
