Driver's door fault

Hi,

I've searched around but can't find a fault that matches mine. So here goes:

I have a weird fault with my driver's door (2013 E89).
Today, when I went to the car I unlocked the door and went to open it, but the window didn't drop. The handle lifts and the latch releases, but no window movement. So I went and tried the passenger door and it's fine. I reached in popped the key in the slot and pressed the window button - winds up and down just fine. Tried the inner door handle.. the latch works but no window drop.
So I wound it down a bit and opened the door from inside. Once the door was open I wound it up and it goes all the way to the top. (the other door stops just before the top. So, in this state you can't close the door!
Wound it down a bit. Shut the door. Tried the handle. Open and closes just fine.

Closed all the windows from the inside. Slid back out the passenger door. shut it. hit the lock button.
It doesn't lock! Got back in the car. pressed the button down to lock it manually. Went and tried it. Locked.
Pressed the unlock button. Doesn't unlock!

Back in the car and pulled the handle. Unlocks and opens (no window drop though).

So the door is half dead. Windows operate ok (and when dropping the roof), but no locking or unlocking or window drop when pulling the handle.
I'm guessing it's electrical, but can't find anything that gives me a clue where to look.

Anyone had this? Or know where to start looking?

Cheers, Carl

No technical knowledge of this but is there a micro switch in the door the signal for the window to drop when the handle is pulled?

Quick update.

So far I still have no idea what has failed.
Checked the fuses and they are all good. There are no fault codes reading.
At a guess it's either they relay switch under the dash or something in the door, but I've no real clue how to figure that out.

Essentially it looks like I'm stuck until I can get it to the garage.

Just a thought i had a problem with the windows and once i noticed the window didn't drop enough.
I would pull up at home and would need to drop window to scan a keypad sensor.
Some times the window would play up and i would thump the door and all was well.
Well one day the window got stuck down.
Then i played with the roof switch and got all windows stuck down.
I noticed the arm rest door switch illumination was out, so i thought a bad earth.
Took door panel off, removed the plug to socket, cleaned with contact cleaner, made sure all pins in the right place.
Then refitted.
All fine since.
Might be worth removing the door panel and cleaning those contacts.

I've read anywhere around about problems with the door harnesses. Maybe you will have a look regarding this at NewTIS:

Some discussions about non-working door windows in the German ZRoadster forum, but I'm not sure, if this will exactly hit your problem:

Issues with a hallsensor at the door:

Many of the door activities are managed by the footwell module FRM:

This photo is what scares me about modern cars!
All that loom? Just for a door???

Well, that's your wrong view:
we are talking about PC's on wheels instead of cars with some electrical components!

Yup! Trouble is, the cars and PCs get regular updates, but I'm still at v1.0 :D

... "have you tried turning it off and then on again?"...

So I took it to the garage for a service and asked them to look at the door.
They took the door card off...
THE PLUG HAD COME OUT! 🤣

Plugged it back in... fixed!

Cheapest fix to a problem ever.... if you don't count the service. (needed that anyway).
