I own a 03 plate BMW 2.5l Z4, which I bought around 9 months ago, and am having problems with the driver side door mechanism. Recently the door does not open from the outside, even though the doors are not locked. I can currently open it from the inside if I reach in from the passenger side door, which is far from convenient. This has happened once before, but the problem even escalated to it not even opening from the inside and I had to climb in from the passenger side!
Last time the problem seemed to fix itself, as the morning I was taking it to my mechanic, the door miraculously worked fine even though it hadn't for the past few days. I took it to my mechanic anyway and they told me it was because I do not drive it enough and the battery in the key had lost its charge. I've tried driving more, but it didn't make a difference. Is this right and does it happen often? Any ideas on how I can fix this?
