Driver side air bag light on, horn and cruise control not working

Hello all community members!!!

I recently purchased a 2005 z4 3.0 ltr which has a clean title but the airbags light stays on, horn does not work (i can hear the relay go click when i pressed the horn) and the cruise control does not work :( I recently purchased an aftermarket clockspring and replaced it but all the issues persist. Does someone have an idea what may be wrong?

TIA

Hello and welcome.
I think I'd start by scanning the car for faults for the airbag and cruise.
You could put a voltmeter across one of the horns. You should be able to get to one by opening up the lower (fog light) panel in the wheel arch.

OK. Good luck.
You can use the bundled INPA software to scan for faults.
I got the bcables but does not work as intended on my 05 z4.. I checked if pin 7 8 were soldered together amd indeed they were.. should i separate?

I only had to fiddle with the operating system to get it to work (can't remember exactly, but it may have needed a different version of .NET Framework or Java). The cable was fine as it was. I use an old Windows XP 32 bit laptop.

Edit: Just tested my cable and pins 7 & 8 don't seem to be connected, but 1 & 2 plus 4 & 5 are.

The BMW INPA software can be problematic getting it set up on a laptop despite the suppliers claim its one click install, dont give up its settings or drivers usually. I recently had an airbag light self inflicted switched on whilst I had a seat out when I tested heated seat wiring I installed. Couldnt clear the light after I put the seat backin using INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 on the laptop.
Decided to invest in a handheld scanner for portability and went for a Creator 310+ via ebay, circa £50, well impressed, found my aitrbag fault first go and cleared it with light extinguished, it was passenger satellite airbag sensor. Also have a cheap B800 airbag tool but didn't have it as it was out on loan thats available on ebay as well.

Will it be the same case for my 05 3i?
I would have thought so, but someone more knowledgeable may come along....

Edit: Ah, I see colb is here to the rescue. :D

Problematic yes! I had to spend at least an hour to have it just detect the cable. Was very frustrating. What was the factors that led you to purchase Creator 310+? Youtue, amazon ratings, personal experience? Excited to hear back soon.. :driving:

I will try soldering 1and 2, 4and 5 and see what happens.. Hopefully I can still start my car after that :tumbleweed:

They must have sent you the wrong cable if you are having to do that, I would have thought.

Purchased the one that you linked in the comments and I went to their website and bought it after asking. I don't know if it's windows 10 or the asus laptop or the cable at this point. Will disconnect 7 and 8 solder blob and join 1,2 and 4,5 first and see it will work. I might wanna take my xp out of my storage LOL

Went with the Creator 310+ when neither INPA or BMW Scanner could clear my airbag light, also wanted something more portable and having seen good reports on the Creator on the Forums I use decided to get one. Not disappointed, sorted my airbag light first go. Very simple to use and reads most of the modules you will have on your car, view live data as well. Over the years have built up quite a selection of diagnostic software some better than others.

I also bought the Creator 310+ and does a fine job of reading codes quick and resetting them, including air bags and ABS. But for more in-depth troubleshooting and coding I use INPA/NCS Expert with the cable.
