Driver exterior door handle came off in hand!

Hello

I do not know quite how this happened but the exterior door handle came off in my hand!

My partner was sitting in the car pulling the internal handle and I was outside the car pulling the exterior one at the same time (was openning the door for her) and the wholw unit came off in my hand (complete oval etc) . I have managed to 1/2 put it back on but only the top is in the correct position, as you lift the handle up the base on the unit move upwards too and it quite annoying.

its an 04 reg 2.2 z4

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago.
At thr back of the door below the door lock ther is an oval panel remove this with a small screwdriver and retain. inside this hole you will see with a good torch a rod with a hole in it get a bradawl or some other sharp insrument and modify the end to have a right angle in it about 2-3 mm long, put it in the hole and push forward towards the front of the car. Insert the door handle fully and then pull this lever as far to the rear as possible (it should click into place).
