When i open the driver door the window dosnt drop a few inches like the passenger door does and when it rains some water comes in from the window. How can i make it drop when the door opens, so that way it will go back up automatically when the door is closed.

Cant help, but i'm watching this as very very occasionally my passenger window doesnt drop.

Anyone know what causes it to drop?

There's a feature called comfort opening. In short, both windows are supposed to half drop when you open the door with the idea it will be easier to get in & out in confined spaces.... programmed on cars ECU against the keys

Sounds like there's a faultt on yr drivers doors as either they both should drop or neither. Had this feature disabled as was causing all sorts of funny window operation...

Best of luck

Jembo, yup, i know what you're talking about but this isn't comfort opening. this is referring to how the windows drop 5mm when you open the door.

They should do this each time you open the door. think it is to ensure glass mates with rubber ok. although iirc someone mentioned air pressure once...!?!?

Try the window reset procedure, it may not have any effect, but it's worth a shot.

I had the same issue a week or so ago and was suggested the same thing (windows reset) and now it works a charm! For some reason the windows keep reacting like that each time I take the roof down so I have to reset each time! Only takes 20 seconds to do though so I'm not too fussed at the moment! :)

Sorry for jumping in on this thread, but it is a window question. My passenger window goes down on one push from the door control on drivers side, but to lift the window i have to keep the button pulled up? Is this normal?? Thanks

Yes - it's a "health and safety" / "don't sue us" issue. There's a perceived risk that somebody or something might get caught in the window while it's on the way up. It can probably be overridden by using NCS Expert. It's very unlikely that a BMW dealer would be prepared to do it.

Mine auto opens and closes. when I changed the battery it stopped doing so. I did the window reset and it works again. The windows also have a function that recognises resistance and will open the window if it sense something in the way.

boblez, The reset procedure is. Push the button to open the window and keep it pressed for 3 seconds after the window has stopped, then raise the switch to open the window and hold for 3 seconds after the window was at its highest point. This should then make the window work properly, including comfort opening/closing via the key.

Thread hijack.. :D

My passenger window using the passenger control has auto up and auto down. My drivers window only has auto down but not up?

I would have thought if anything it would have been the other way round? Or is this normal?

Tom.

Some cars have auto up/down both sides. (facelift?) If driver's side does not auto up, the reset should get it working. If that doesn't work, there is something wrong.

You need to carry out the windows rest procedure

Well, thank you is all I can say! So nice when you Google something and actually find an answer that works! And thank you for telling us what the procedure was as I hadn't a clue :-) :D
