Drifting a Z4 2.0i

Just wanted to see how tail happy it might be
Seems you have found the answer.......not very! :)

Welcome to the forum BTW.

We all tried silly things like this when we were your age (at least I did). I spent a lot of time trying to perfect 180 degree handbrake turns in a Transit van outside my house when I was 19. I was just getting the hang of it when the neighbours called the Police and my mum gave me a slap!

The van wasn't mine, though, so I didn't care if I broke it.

Well welcome to the forum and good luck with your antics, just keep them to an appropriate location. Not my local Tesco car park as they've just installed barriers, speed bumps and CCTV to stop the thick black circles appearing overnight!

I used to end up wagging the tail of my RS2000 and 2.8i Capris when I was young and carefree especially when it was wet, but I doubt any of them would manage doughnuts with open diffs.

I think you might even be able to run 16" wheels on your car as I had a set of 205/55 x 16 winters for my E46 that had the same underpinnings as a Z4.

As my dear old Mum used to tell me be good, if you can't be good be careful and if you can't be careful don't get caught!

When I was young and doing this kinda stupid s**t there was no internet for it to get shown on when it all went wrong and it did.

I do have videos of myself doing said stupid s**t on motorbikes/ in cars but it's not going anywhere near the interweb or being sent to anyone.

Just go and do it/ have fun/ only share with your mates and people who you know will larf.

By the law of sod, if you put it/ ask on a forum and there will be one of two people who will be a killjoy's and drop you in the s**t.

By the way to do proper donuts you need a LSD and 250BHP, don't bother trying with anything less or you'll end up looking stupid and getting caught!

Don't be a twat in built up areas or busy roads at peak times as that attracts plod. Sunday mornings at 5am in the country side with your mates is where its at.

Like everyone already said, the only cheap option is to weld a diff, but not the best one. Maybe find some used diff, I don't know. Even with the used one you will have to pay someone to do the installation unless you or someone you know knows how to do it.

Here's a good one on open diff drifting:

I noticed the video was produced by BEMFA. Presumably stands for British Entitled Male Federation of Arseholes?

When I was young (67) I used to do this at the Porsche Experience Centre. I loved it, great fun, donuts galore without the black circles due to low grip surface. 'Kick plates' would send you into a spin, which you had to catch and the waterfall was brilliant fun. I spent many a day there. Those were the days and I only had to buy 3 Porsches for the fun. Brilliant. :D

Ignore some of the old farts in here :rofl:just be sensible about where and when you have a play.

So you held the DSC for 3 seconds, mine takes a little longer than that to fully disengage, and on some, I believe you can't fully disengage it. But try for longer in the first instance.

Also, how mechanically minded are you? This is the cheapest way to get some sort of LSD in your car, but I'm not fully sure how robust it is. It'll b more down to how good you are at installing it in the car and if you dfo it correctly. The better it is installed, the longer it will last.

You might like to sign up for a drift day at Oulton Park via MSV Trackdays, super low grip surface, so even with an open diff, it's possible to slide. They also have tuition, which is well worth it.
