Drawing up a Will

Could anyone advise on the 'going rate' for drawing up a joint will for my wife and I. My bank have introduced me a solicitor who charges £160 for a will for myself and my wife. Does this seem reasonable for a will that I believe will be fairly simple to execute? Can't be bothered with these 'do it yourself wills' that I've heard about.

Any advice greatly received.
 
My parents (in their 80s) did it through credit union legal FOC ....Seems if you have an account it's free with them .
 
I paid £155 a few years back for me and my partner, which was the cheapest "decent" will we could find.
So £160 seems about fair to me :thumbsup:
 
Cant remember the cost, but we did ours before we got married. The solicitor was heavily on Deb's side about 1 point (she was putting £38k into our new house from an inheritance) and the solicitor wanted to word the wills saying I was a tenant!

We had arguments over that and nearly didnt get married!

That was 14yrs ago.
 
That seems pretty good to me. We paid £85 each close to 20 years ago with a solicitor when they were running the "make a will week"
 
Yep, pretty good price. We managed to find a money-off groupon deal that cost just £29 last year... Though was discounted from about £140 IIRC.
 
Mine was under £100 (think about £75) but I'm single and that was about 7/8 years ago now, although it was rather complicated to draw up....

The solicitors often hold the will for you and do all sorts of other stuff like set up Power of Attorney, so when you're dribbling you kids can get in and sort you out.

Aside that most people when they get into it have a much more complex will than expected. OK to say 50:50, but do they sell the house, what if they disagree, can one have the Zed or must it be sold and then the cash split and so on.

If they're over 18 you're ok, otherwise u need some additional protection that won't cost you £160

Given your obvious lack of knowledge on the subject I'd suggest you have a professional will drawn up :)
