DPD weirdness

So I ordered a DA polisher to take out the vandal scratch in the Corsa and also because I'd like to learn to do paint corrections and it arrived today (a DAS6 pro from cleanyourcar for those that like these things.)

So the DPD van turns up outside the house and the back door opens then nothing. 5 mins pass so I go outside to see if they've got a damaged package. Nope.

His response "I'm too early". Their stupid scheduling system actually slows them down if they are ahead of schedule. His little handheld computer is showing a message "you are too early, wait 3:30" with a countdown and he can't over-ride it and so I can't have my parcel. The stupid thing is it calculates it will take him10 minutes to get 4 doors up the road and so he'll have to wait again.

It's not the driver's fault, but what a stupid system!

Anyway, I offered him a cuppa :)
 
Mad but then DPD are streets ahead of other couriers, they always give you an eta of an hour slot and I've never had them deliver outside of it.

Isn't it like a train though....if they make up time on one sector, they wait at the next station till the proper time. I think buses are meant to do the same.

So the driver has effectively got his own daily timetable to follow, and I guess the 1 hour window is to allow for traffic.

Its not really a silly system at all if you think about it - it ensures they can offer you the 1 hour window with confidence that they will make it. If he was to make time in that way, eventually he would get to deliveries to early and either then have to wait, or leave...and thats bloody annoying if you're making a special effort to get there for the stated times.

He got a free cuppa out of it!
 
Seems a good system, but does have it's flaws as you've seen.

The 1 hour slot is fantastic and saves having to sit by the front door all day.
 
Never heard of this before so is interesting. Delivery drivers are just idiots some of them. Not DPD but saw a Tufnells lorry pull up today to deliver something to a neighbour. Something rolled up. No one was in and one of the delivery guys put it over the garden gate. Didn't see them post a card through to door about doing this so I guessed a) Purchaser requested this action if not in. B) They sent text or something to inform purchaser? My mum saw and was not impressed they didn't put a card through the door, as was I though I wondered if there was another way they informed the neighbour like mentioned. Or maybe they were just idiots!!?
 
I get the same DPD driver, we're on Christian name terms. I like the allocated one hour slots but it can cause problems for the driver if he's running ahead or behind of schedule. No system will be perfect but this company is streets ahead of other delivery companies.
 
I like DPD. They're so precise with their delivery times compared to other firms. It sounds a bit of daft system though Stuart I must admit.
 
I like them as well. I am getting rather tired of the lies of TNT and CityLink that say that you were not home, just so they bugger off home for the day early.

When I challenge despatch on that and they repeat the lie, I simply tell them the driver is a lier as all traffic towards my house is captured by cameras so there is no way anyone had been there. That normally gets the truth out of them in the end that the driver never came near the place and just put that down to justify his hours.

No, I'm just admiring it and getting death stares from SWMBO because it's on the kitchen table and came in a mahoosive box that's in the living room :D

Being a man and not reading instructions or descriptions properly, I ordered a bag for it but the kit I ordered came with one anyway, so if I don't need it to store the polishes and pads in I shall offer it up for the cost of postage.
