Was reading a Bmw Car magazine M special yesterday and got to the " Battle of the beasts" article pitting the Z4 M coupe against the earlier Z3 version when I saw the pics of the cars, the Z4 was imola red reg no YF06USG I had to look twice, mine is virtually identical bar two letters and was first registered by BMW UK,I wonder if the current owner of the test car is a member of this forum. The articles also mentioned a possible reliability problem with "crankcase ventilation oil separator" which I assume is the canister like item on the r/h wing of engine bay. Does anyone know what goes wrong with them and can they be periodically maintained at home or is it a replacement only or dealer strip job?

It is a known issue with the 3.0 pre facelift Diesel X5, but not heard of it before with this engine.

From chatting to the previous owner of my Z4C he said mine had started life as a press car and was first registered to BMW UK... my reg is YF06UZC so fairly close as well!!

I always assumed press cars were driven to within an inch of their life (and beyond sometimes) and probably not sold to the public afterwards as a result! Does make you wonder who's driven your car before you if it's an ex-press car?
