came through a village in dorset last week downhiil 30mph speed warning sign so watching my speed, as i left the village it was quite a steepish hill up. as i was leaving the village i could see the 40 mph sign ahead so as i was struggling a little bit in 3rd i excelarated a bit to maintain third gear, was probably doing 36 or 38 but not too worried as was clear of the village buildings and aproaching the 40 sign ,... Then noticed a police officer hiding between the posts of a sign pointing a radar gun at me.... yikes ! question is, he would need to stop me to nick me would he ? , or radio a colleague up ahead, cant imagine he could do a photo through the post as he was on foot and not in a camera van, was he just checking speeds possibly , any ideas ? thanks :?

Some of the hand-held units photograph the car/plate - otherwise all he had to do was take a note of your reg and link it to the reading in his notebook. Then he can process the NIP when he gets back to the station.

Unfortunately the speedo is quite accurate at the 30-40mph speeds - so an indicated 36-38 would be a real 35-37. You may get lucky and he's not looking for small infringers, or you may get a speed awareness course. Otherwise it's 3pts & £60 fine.

If you do get a ticket/fine/points, then double-check your insurance docs to see when you need to inform them. Mine only wants the info when you you come to renew, but others want to be informed immediately. You wouldn't want to fall foul of the insurance company too!

Sneaky buggers, :thumbsdown: I was driving along the A4 Wednesday morning, between Bristol & Keynsham. There's a place where you have a set of lights, then the road goes from duelled to single lane, a few hundred yards later and the limit changes from 30 to 40. So just the sort of place any normal driver would nip past a few busses & lorries. Surprise, surprise, a speed camera van, sat at the point where the limit changes from 30 to 40. Fortunately I was following other traffic and all of us below 30, by pure luck.

I used to have the utmost respect for the Police but alas they have done themselves no favours over the last 20 years. They are becoming less ethical than bloody villains. :thumbsdown:

Near where I live there's a seriously steep downhill stretch of dual carriageway. At the bottom of the bank the gradient flattens out and the speed limit changes to 70mph. The other day going to work I was going down the bank and was doing 50 but gravity intervened, I kept touching the brakes now and again but there was an HGV gaining on me from behind so did not want to be too drastic. Anyway towards the bottom of the bank there's only a bloody speed camera van parked at the side of the road not far before the limit steps up to 70! Utter bastards I say. No excuse for it. Never known an accident there in all my years. No footpaths, no pedestraians, no houses, no junctions, no traffic lights = no hazards and no point of a mobile camera imho!!

I wasn't in the Zed and although I was doing more than 50 I don't think the speedo was reading above 55 so hopefully I will not get an unwelcome envelope through the post! However if I've learnt one thing in my life it's that what goes around comes around. The Police need to have a sertious look at themselves and realise that us genuine, hard working, tax paying, morally upstanding, ethical and mostly law biding citizens should never be the focus of their enforcement efforts. One day they may need my help and the way I feel at the moment it will not be as forthcoming as it once may have been.

Im a supporter of Police officers of the front line. Unfortunately they have to go by targets and involuntarily help getting the seniors their promotion, increased pay awards etc. 'Wasting Police time' is a good book to read if you want to know the difficulties they face from within the Force.
They speed, illegally park on pavements etc, and that's where the hypocrisy lies. What can you do? We've all seen twattish driving by others but nothing seems to be able to be done about it. :x
