Door sound proofing - facelift

In the next few days I'm going to be fitting door speakers. Whilst the door cards are off I'm going to fit some butyl sound deadening to the cards.
Is it worthwhile fitting the same to the door skins.....I do know the earlier cars had zero proofing but I have seen on realoem that the facelift does have sound proofing, so is it worthwhile adding more?

Take a look here mate, https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1501241#p1501241

Finally fitted sound deadening, used 2.5mm butyl by clarity acoustics. Made the door feel like it's made from lead instead of tin foil!
Also fitted Alpine door speakers, tapping into the tweeter wiring as recommended on the forum. Sound is so much better, wish I had done this a few yrs ago.

Did you put any on the door skins whilst you had the card and liner off?

I did intend putting some on the inside of the door skins but changed my mind as the facelift already has it fitted, so just did the cards, but what a difference it has made. Pre-facelift doesn't have any so that would be worthwhile doing. If you are going to do it you will need a fair bit of sound deadening, I used 10 sheets of 300mm x 200mm and that just about did the door cards.

Nice job! Just in the process of doing mine as well. Question: did you undo the airbag bolts and let the module hang when you looked behind the seal, and did you disconnect the battery?

Just a note, my car built 06/06 thus Facelift, has no soundproofing in the doors . Have instaled it now though. Also if you are careful , unbolt the Airbag Module and use a cable tie to hold it up to one of the clips for the top of the door card.Access is then easy to do the inside of the door skin.

I only took part of the seal away but could see original sound deadening (facelift) so didn't bother adding more instead I did the door card, that has made a significant difference to the weight of the door and the shutting sound.....still not the thud of a car with a roof but no longer that tinny ring!
Regarding the battery, I always disconnect when doing anything with the electrical system.
