door lock/pin doesnt pop up properly??

when i press my keys to unlock, it unlocks fine but the little pin that should pop up clicks a few times, judders a bit then stops (door still opens and unlocks/locks fine)

is this a common fault and anybody know how to fix??

thanks.

p.s, it only started yesterday when it was below freezing if that means anything, i know the windows dont like it when there frozen and u unlock it as they cant move down a few mm ... ???

It's only decorative. I suspect the bent rod that is underneath it, connecting it to the lock mechanism s being restricted or trapped by the soundproofing usually wrapped around it.

Door card off in 10-15 minutes (first time) for a quick look

ok ill try get the door card off at weekend and hopefully sort it, just wondered if it was a common thing or not.

theres a video on youtube about taking the door card off to install speakers which is pretty handy so ill watch that again to hopefully make sure i dont break anything

thanks :D

Certainly not common problem. More common is the button rattling and needing padding. Other issue is that when refitting the door card folks forget to thread the button back in before clipping the door back on.

My Drivers side door has just started exhibiting the same issue so I will take a look as well. Time in short supply at present

Instead of opening door card pull the pin slightly it could be catching.
CAUTION if you take pin off dont lock door as the metal rod gets stuck in door card! I got stuck in the car good job it was a convertible.

Years ago , a car I shared (vauxhall nova club) had a Sigma alarm fitted to it.
There were no door lock pins on it and in their place was a flashing LED when the alarm was set.
I dont think the pins are really much use these days as they are not used to lock the car while inside, most cars either have a button that locks all the doors or they lock automatically when driving.

its the very noisy 3 or 4 clicks it makes as it attempts to pop up... so if anybody is near the car when i come along and unlock it they look as its not a normal sound u hear :/

might try get a vid to show what it soubnds like and can see what it does....

will try and have a look at weekend if i get a chance as really busy :( I HATE WINTER when its dark after work... no time to work on cars :( (not rich enough to have a garage or lighted area lol)

Begs the question why have them?
As a visible sign that the car is locked or unlocked

I agree, why have them? We have a flashing 'clowns nose'

Only when armed. Not when you're sat in the car and wouldn't know if either or both doors are locked or unlocked. I have selective locking and can only tell if the passenger door is open or locked from the pin up or down.

Surely you do know? I thought selective locking could be set for your personal choice, lock on engine on, lock at certain speed, don't lock.

And, we have a switch to lock the doors - and they go CLUNK

At risk of getting pedantic....

Not at all impossible to know. On mine it's programmes for one blip to open the drivers door, 2 to open the passenger and 3 to drop the roof (or windows).

If a passenger wants to get in I would not know if the door was opened or not.
Of course I can just press the lock unlock button, but the question is about why have the button --- and it's for a visual guide.

Could I live without it and would I be happier if the rattly bit of crap wasn't there - of course...
