Door light connection - too short!

So, the quick & easy change to LEDs wasn't so easy after all! Everything was going fine until the last location - the down-lights inside the doors. Managed to get the light fitting out, only to find that the connector is on a cable that is too short to be able to reconnect the unit!

Anyone got any ideas? Or do I have to go and grovel to my local dealer?

I was going to DIY changing the LEDs but I was warned that the door connectors were very short with very little slack. Your best bet is try and hook it with a wire or pull the door apart. You can also try and call your dealership if they will replace the bulbs for you, some may even do it w/o charging you.

Take the door card off for better access? Where exactly is the light?

How easy (or not) is the door card to remove?
Four torx bolts and some clips. I just pulled the bottom of the card off and left the top in place, that gave enough room to connect the light. That was the LHD drivers door, I didn't need to open the other door card.

Finally had a dry day at the weekend, so managed to spend some time sorting the door lights out. I had only disconnected the lefthand door, so started on the righthand side by just removing the clear plastic cover. Then, using a pair of long-nosed pliors, carefully eased the bulb out. Then, using the same tool, eased the LED replacement into the slot - sorted!

For the lefthand door, I lassood the connector inside the door with a piece of cord, pulled it tight (but not too tight) to allow me to push the light housing back in place. Once it was part way on, I trapped the connector with a finger & pushed the housing until it clicked in place - sorted!

I think it was worth it! Here's some photos (taken with iPhone camera as my main camera is waiting replacement, so not the best night-time shots!)

so are these replacing the existing filament bulbs with brighter LED bulbs or retrofitting lights which were not installed at build time?
