Door handle colour?

Last week I ordered a drivers side door handle trim, the clip on bit on the main grab handle.
I picked it up and went to fit it last night but noticed the new one was a totaly different finish to what I have already.
The new piece is very silver, plain paint looking finish. The one in the car is darker with a more frosted finish.
The dealer said the new one is what the car originaly came with, yet I don't think I've seen another car with the same silver finish and obviously my car doesn't have it now. Judging by the wear on my drivers side handle, it seems to be the original part to me.

Does anyone know the names of the finishes? what should the standard one be on a 2004 3.0litre in the UK?

They're ordering a new one, but I'd like to make sure it's the correct one this time.

These are the only codes I can find:

aren't they paint codes/colours for the car?

I'm talking about the interior handle

AFAIK it needs to be brushed aluminium finish, it looks like the one they have ordered is some sort of chromeline finish that is on the facelift models. I think you want this part no 51417042878 but I'm not 100% on that :?

Can you find out what they've ordered?

Would agree with wondermike, looks like they supplied chromeline instead of standard

That will be the problem then, the guy who originaly ordered did seem to change his mind on the part number.

It's odd that you say the chromeline was for facelift cars, as mine is pre-facelift. Yet the guy I returned the part to, says my car came with a chromeline pack from the factory :| are there any other interior changes they made?

Just had a phone call from the dealership, from a guy who seemed much more knowledgable, they've got the new part but worryingly it's described as carbon effect :?

Going by my descpription of what I have, the guy said it sounds like I may have a chromeline finish but ovbiously what I got the first time was very different looking and may be from a newer chromeline version (the part numbers for chromeline have been changed). He wants me to drop in this week and have a look for himself.

I'll get some photo's up later, hopefully the sun will appear at some point today, I wanted to get thr roof cleaned and protected but it's threatening to rain.

Sounds a bit strange doesn't it, have a look at this thread again and seee what you think of the brochure description, yours look exactly like mine did, that was a standard pre-facelift 2005 3.0SE just like yours...

Mystery solved (hopefully) aparantly I have a third option. Chromeline Anthracite, which is darker than both chromeline and the standard finish.

With the part number change though, they can't easily order the anthracite version so they're going to have to email BMW and try and get one sorted. :headbang:

:headbang: BMW got back to the dealer, aparantly the colour I want is discontinued and they can't get any spares,

Since I'd then have to replace both handles to have them matching, I asked if I'd have to pay for the second one. He said they could do it as a warranty claim (I don't have a warranty with them) but I'd have to go with the original chromeline finish they got me. I'm not happy with that at all, since the chromeline finish is very silver and matches nothing else in the car and IMO looks very cheap and nasty. I can't see how the car originaly coming with "chromeline anthracite" means I should go for "chromeline" as an alternative, it's a completely different finish and the standard finish is closer. Got him to agree to going for the regular finish, should be getting sorted when I go for a service on Friday but I'm tempted to ring a few other BMW dealerships to see if they can get the original anthracite handle for me.

I don't see why you can get spare parts for old BMW models that are years out of production, yet getting a different finish on a part thats still being made is not possible :x

True, and what a saga too - trying to find all this out

I reckon I would try another dealer, or even see if Andy from leatherz can get you one in the US and ship it over.

I tried emailing BMW directly a couple of days ago but got a reply today saying "sorry we can't help, try getting your dealer to do a parts enquiry" :headbang:

I think I'll let them fit the new ones on Friday but make sure I keep the old ones, atleast I'll get both handles for the price of one and can fit the old ones if I want.
Then I'll go to the Sarasota dealership next time I'm in Florida and see if they can get them.
