Any signs of door dings/dents due to other people carelessly throwing their doors open in car parks? Does the trim below the door stick out far enough to in a way "protect" the z4 from this or is it so low that any flying door will cause pain?
Not sure exactly what you are asking, but as I see it there is no ptoection on the Z4 at all, the best bet would be some form of rubbing strip as on the E46's, Z4 just be careful where you park
This is something that really really annoys me! So far I have been lucky with the Z as I always park in suitable spaces. However my mum works in a Doctors surgery and the parking spaces outside are pretty narrow. Her car is absolutely trashed, Im talking ten to fifteen dents on each door. Two seperate incidents have resulted in red and blue paint being scraped up either side of her bumper when people have hit her whilst parking/getting out of space...and not 1 person has owned up. It really is a disgrace IMO that people can do that and just not give a sh#t about someone elses property.
Another time my dad came out of a shopping centre and a woman had parked very close to his Range Rover, she had her door pressed against his car as she got her kid out of the rear and when my dad asked her, very politely IMO, to get her door off of his car she tutted as though he was being unreasonable! She doesnt know how lucky she was it wasnt her husband doing it or she would have been carrying him as well as the kid
So unfortunatley no matter what you do there will always be people out there who think of nothing but themselves and at somepoint your car will get dented or scraped
Ive had similar when parking outside my flat... I knew who was doing it (but couldnt prove it) and very politely asked him to be careful when getting out of his car - he denied all knowledge! Strangely though shortly afterward I noticed no more dings in the doors
Come trade in time I took it for part exchange at dusk in the rain and the dealer didnt notice
Now Im very picky about where I park my car and have so far been lucky
Have you ever noticed though that you can park in the furthest spot away from all other cars at a supermarket car park, come back to the car and there are 2 cars parked either side yours! :|
^^^^ I usually look for a wide space between 2 cars. It you park it far away I find that the ones who are jealous get to it and may damage the car on purpose.

That's why I drive my truck to do any type of shopping at all. No matter how you try to stay out of peoples' way, they'll get you! Especially the moomy-vans. God women are the WORSE when it comes to getting their kids out of the bus - they do not care about any vehicles around them and in fact expect you to basically yield to their needs. Then they have to get those 4 ft. wide SUV-type strollers out and pack the kids plus fifty-million do-dads and toys and snacks and sh*t in it...
While at PetsMart last week, I watched this exact scene play out - she used the vehicles' door next to her to brace her @ss against while unhooking the kid from the car seat - unbelievable :x
I hate leaving the Z at any sort of shopping car park. There always seems to be a wreck pulled right up next to it when I come back or worst still a mum loading her car. I have real sympathy but hell while trying to fasten a kid in my car seems to be the door stop
Wherever possible I use the X5 - it's large running boards deter most would be denters...
