Door card trim clips wont "clip"

Hopefully someone else has had the same problem and can help....

Basically when I bought the car the passenger side door card was loose so I bought some supposedly compatible OEM replacement clips and had a go at fitting them today http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-OEM-INTERIOR-DOOR-BODY-CARD-FASTENER-PANEL-BOOT-CLAMP-TRIM-LINING-CLIPS-/231520944991

But still having a problem when I push the door card back into the door I can see the clips are lining up into the correct holes but I cant push the door card far enough into the door for the kinked section to slot through the hole.

I can push it all the way so the door card meets the door but they wont click into place :headbang: I have tried getting a mate to hold it tight against the door then giving it a firm whack with the palm of my hand in the position of all the clips but still they wont bite. I have even tried it without the little black foam washers on in case that was taking away the clearance I need but still not clipping into the door.

Any advice appreciated I just want to get the passenger side door card to fix back on to the door properly. Its just at the bottom so (5 clips) that are loose

get one clip in your hand and try it in the hole in the door...just in case they are the wrong size or some tool has opened up the holes ??

Why not pop the driver's door card and compare the 'supposedly compatible OEM replacement clips' to an OEM one - or even try an OEM one from the driver's door with the px door card.

If the OEM clip works it looks like you've just been tripped up by 'compatible' parts not being quite compatible enough - if you have to get some from the dealers the OEM clips are cheap enough that it won't be a major walletectomy...

I tried the clips and they do fit the holes but just aren't long enough for them to slot in past the kinked section once they are attached to the inner of the door card.

I actually got it to kind of bite, not convinced it is going to be 100% solid but just hit it that bit harder than than I had dared to before ended up with some slightly red knuckles but it seems to be holding for now.

If I pull the doorcard out at the side (not far enough to un pop it) I can see that it still doesn't go over the kink into the hole so now I'm even wondering if its supposed to go that far in (so be locked in place by the kinked bit) or if its just supposed to friction fit onto the taper of the clip

IIRC from when I added sound deadening to my doors, they tend to pop in without too much force and the indent is supposed to latch on the metal of the inner doorskin - why not try unpopping the corner of the driver's doorcard to see the difference

Was just looking at guides to remove door card an found this.

It seems the 3 clips at the hinge end of the card are longer than the other clips along the bottom an rear edge of the card, this may have been your issue with them not going in far enough.

Awesome thanks mate! Have them clipped in right now but the do still come unclipped every now and again, will get some yellow clips ordered

No problem
Just wanted to say thanks again for posting this. Replaced the white clips with yellows today and niw they clip in perfectly and the doors make a much more satisfying clunk on shutting with none of the rattle they used to have

Great news

Not a problem, makes a change that I can help someone on here.
Had mine off last weekend to do window regulator but made sure all the clips had the felt on them, but then broke 2 of the metal clips at top of door, also added sound proofing to the door while regulator was out of the way the difference is shocking, proper German clunk on door shut
