Dont think it is the cat-

Hi all,had another spirited hoon today,light stayed off!-after about 600 miles since it was turned off and a few motorway miles/speeds under the zeds belt is it safe to say its not the cat?-i mean how could it stay off for this long if it were at fault?-any thoughts?-thanks.
 
Andy, I just think these emission lights are very sensitive on the Z4. As you know mine has come on from time to time but still runs OK. Touch wood it has not come on in the last 6 weeks and I did add a can of BG44K fuel cleaner in a full tank a couple of weeks or so ago and have used half a tank of fuel. I had a MOT on Friday and the tester remarked that it was a very clean car.

So the message is 'don't worry about it'. :wink:
 
The reason for asking is it seems quite common on Z4's for the emission light to come on after changing to a different fuel. Coincidence or not I don't know but it happened to me and a few others on here.
 
Im not sure of the history of your fault,but sometimes the EML can take a few weeks to illuminate..

This is usually when fuel trim faults are present.

Cats are usually easy to determine if at fault..Let me know your symtoms and stuff and i will try and advise you.

No symptoms at all other than the emission light coming on,had manifold replaced,two 02 sensors,software update done,smoke test for leaks,so indy told me as a process of elimination it has to be the cat,but there is no sulphur smell,no knocking or loss of power
 
Just to add -i had been told a spirited run or two would help 'clean' the cat-i have done this and light is still off :)

I depends on what the original fault codes were thrown up when you had the fault..

What was wrong with the manifold ?
