sounds a bit "tappety" to me but I am a bit pedantic when it comes to these things. please see the recording below and advise!

its a 2004 3.0i roadster.

That sounds like the big ends knocking..... :P :P
Sounds fine to me, but it's hard to tell from the video as you are so close to the engine and it will pickup the smallest of noises. Move the camera away from the engine bay a bit

It sounds like the DISA valve - I would give it a check over for piece of mind

fkn hell¬ reaed the big end thing and it scared the crap out of me lol! good one.

re. DISA...had a feeling it might be this. it was last changed around 60k and its on 112k now so due.

is there any way to check it with inpa etc?

and is it safe enough to remove the plug that goes into it while the engine is running just to test of it is defo the disa?

found this replacement online...

Just google it, you should find a how to on there

ok couple more videos!

1. didn't wanna take the disa out because I would have to start messing about with the air intake pipes which I couldn't be bothered to do at night. I did a quick test by taking the plug out and the tapping sound doesn't change. does that mean anything?

what do we think?

2. there is a weird suction sound after I pull the keys out which I just noticed-wtf is that?!

Hi, It does sound a bit metallic but it's hard to really say as your video will amplify certain sounds. The sucking sound is just valves in the heating and ventilation system shutting down, I tell my wife it's just the jet engine winding down

When was the oil changed and what oil is it running on. Car has done a good few miles so perhaps a slightly thicker oil or adding an additive like Wynns might help. At least its worth a try

Tesco fully synthetic 5w30 has been used for top ups and Castrol for services (not by me-I just bought the car)

You bought it with a noise coming from the engine that you were unhappy about??

Try an oil change with some decent, possibly thicker, oil. It's comparatively easy to do yourself and probably needs doing anyway.

Found some oil at home. Got some of the usual 5w30 but also found a lot of Castrol gtx 15w40 made for high mileage cars.

I would recommend Castrol Edge 10/60 which is probably better for an engine with highish mileage. You could also add a small can of Wynns engine friction reducer which helps worn engines.
