Does a z4 have sterring fluid which needs to be changed?

I own a 2003 z4 and the dealer said I need to change the steering fluid because if I don't part can brake off and cause harm to the steering. I know z4 have electric assisted steering but need to know if it would be hard for me to change the fluid if in fact there is fluid.

Ask him to show you the power steering fluid reservoir...

I'm pretty certain the electronic power steering is nothing more than a motor to turn the pinion on the steering rack.

Errr does nt the motor drive a pump so that the fluid still operates the steering in the traditional way !

I think Adam is right...

"In electric power steering an electric motor drives the steering-mechanism. The motor is attached to the steering rack, and a microprocessor regulates the motor and so the steering dynamics. The key component is a sensor on input shaft which converts steering torque and rotation speed into signals to be fed into the microprocessor. Electric power systems have the 1-MPG advantage compared to the hydraulic system’s fuel efficiency, which includes a pump that is constantly working. The criticism is that they do not provide enough feedback to the driver."

....unless its Servotronic, which I'm not sure about....

apparently the new Z4 uses Servotronic, which IS an electric motor-assisted hydraulic setup of some sort, but not sure about the old Z4...anyone know for sure?

You cannot find a reservoir for power steering fluid under the bonnet. Do all Z4 have EPS since first production?

A quick look around realoem parts for my M54 3.0 shows some servo thingy on the steering column and a angle sensor. The M's have traditional hydraulic steering as it gives better feedback to the driver through the front wheels.
