topic says it all.
graduated this summer and been living off savings.
Savings are now running out and despite getting close to obtaining a grad job, I always seem to fall at last hurdle.

do you have to pay council tax if on JSA?
anyone know if you can back claim a certain amount of time if you have proof of seeking employment?

From what I understand, there is NO way of avoiding council tax. Only getting a discount of 25% if you live alone.

I was on JSA a few years ago and there was nothing I could get relief from.

seems odd that they would charge £1k+ a year council tax to someone who would get £57 a week in JSA

Depending on where you are, you may get 30% discount.

Have a look herefor top level info. Might need to look at your local authority website.
It's not called council tax benefit any more, it's called reduction.....?

If on JSA I think you could apply for council tax benefit.....but it may be means tested, so same applies to benefit for your rent too.....
