Do roof motor issues affect only pre LCI E85 or all E85?

The issues with water soaken electro hydraulic roof motors are well known with E85, also on this forum. As far as I can see it only sems to effect the pre LCI E85's? So pre 2006? Do any of you know of post LCI E85 having same issue of blocked draines and the resulting roof motor failures? Our '06 Z4 M stopped opening its roof but I'm not convinced that it's the roof motor. So, love to read if any of the '06-'09 E85 have reported the same failures. Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum.
The issue affects all E85s and relocating is the answer.
If yours has stopped then it'll need to come out to be sorted anyway, so obviously then get it located in the boot.
Do you have any symptoms? Any lights flashing? Does the front unlatch? Have you left the parcel shelf raised?

Oh and as an aside, we always like to see new members' cars, so a photo or two would be appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome and the quick response. Roof was working fine but had one slight issue: when closing the driver side window wouldn't close fully. Had tried everything, resetting etc. Eventually took it to my trusted garage where they felt the need to replace the window unit. It never worked properly since and now the roof stopped working as well. So back to the workshop for diagnosis and they reported the deceased roof motor. That just doesn't sit well with me due to earlier window issue and that not being solved. Had noticed on the fora that all cars mentioned were pre LCI's so that got me thinking. But it's your experience that '06-'08 E85 have the same issues?

Firstly, lovely looking car you have there.

That doesn't sound good.
From personal experience I know that if the roof doesn't know where the window is then it won't move.
I think I would try a battery disconnect for half an hour, then reconnect it, reset the windows and see what happens.
The design of the roof motor and the drainage is exactly the same. So the same issues could arise.

The window reset I use is:
Lower the drivers window, when it reaches the bottom release the switch then press it four more times within 10 seconds. You should hear a click inside the door. Then raise the window, when it gets to the top repeat the four clicks.
you can check it's worked by opening the door and making sure it drops a few mm.
Repeat the process for the passenger window. you can do this from the switch on the drivers door too.

Hopefully that will solve your issue.

Even if your motor is dead, it seems odd that you have a problem with the window too.

Are you UK based? (Something about the bright blue sky in your photo is telling me no. :D)

I would also suggest it is worth checking the fuses first.
It could also possibly be the roof control module, which sits behind the small grille just behind the seat on the left side.

Indeed, not UK based. The bright blue sky was incidental though. Our Dutch skies are usually just as cloudy.

I'll have a go with your suggestions, thanks a lot. Will report back later.

I can't really add anything to what EnuffZed has posted, other than when resetting the windows also drop the window about 10-15cm then raise them again (This is what happens when the roof is lowered and, I believe it helps the roof to learn where the windows are).

Also - I'm just wondering why, if you are new to the forum, your joining date is shown as May 2013...?
