Quick question that could be z4 related but I want to wrap my trackday car. I was originally buying an e30 but it didn't pan out. Today however I've got a 205 gti that's already been track prepped. Paint works a bit rough, but how hard could it be to wrap it myself? As far as I can see from videos I've watched as long as your roll of vinyl is wider than your biggest panel all you need are a squeegy as used in sign making and a heat gun and a craft knife. I can get the vinyl via a company I deal with at work who are in the sign industry, got to be worth a shot or is it a stupid idea? About £50 for a roll, 25m I think, should be plenty for a little hatch back. Not worried about the paint underneath as it's 21 years old.

Diy vinyl wrap, is it possible?

The most amount of vinyl I've ever used was to cover the front and rear bumpers of my 350z for a few trackdays.
It was my first attempt, and it took the best part of a day to do the rear alone.
I was working on my own, which doesn't help, but it was a bit of a git of a job getting all the angles and curves covered without gaining "twists" or bubbles in the vinyl... it really does take an age until you're quite experienced with it.
I guess an older car, which is likely to have less angles and curves, should be easier.
You are right tho... craft knife, vinyl, teflon squegee and a heat gun should be all you need.
I had a handspray bottle with the alcohol cleaner in it handy too, as this made it easier if I needed to lift the vinyl and reapply.
It's also really important to clean the car really well, without using any cleaner that leaves a shine. Then go over the whole car with an alcohol cleaner - getting into all the gaps etc.

I think you're onto a real hiding for nothing unless you have a well heated garage and can get the temp up. This time of year the wrappers stop due to the cold unless they have premises.
My experience goes as far as fastening ninyl on the rear of 2 2m x 1m shower panels and it was a nightmare.
That said on a 20+ year old car might be worth a punt
