DIY Roof Motor replacement

Good Morning,

I've been looking at the various posts from people who have done the motor replacement. And I thought I'd seek the thoughts of people who have done it! :)

I'm in two minds to do it as I'm "OK" when it comes to DIY. But the biggest thing I've done on the car was replace the boot light!

However, i'm great at following instructions :)

I just don't like the idea of giving the stealers a boat load of cash if it can be avoided. My partner would be giving me a hand and I figure it's about 6 - 7 hours work.

We don't have a garage but we do have off street parking.

The question is there anyone who's done it as complete n00b?

Any advice greatly appreciated :)

Cheers T1b

I had a look at doing mine, and decided not to - it's quite a long job, not too difficult but tedious.
I ended up taking mine to Grosvenor Motors (BMW independent) in Reading - they did the whole thing for £650 in 4 hours. I would really recommend them.

I did mine; it's not that hard really - I had my dad to help with the lift off/on, otherwise did it myself. Key is persistence, especially with the two clips that hold the ends of the 'hoop' in - was swearing a bit there, but a fat screwdriver and careful prying saw it through.

Hi, I'm in the process of trying to replace my roof motor, and following shipkillers instructions. However I am stuck on step 5, removing the weather seal from the body of the car. I can't get the seal off, I have tried pulling and prying out with fingers and a flat screw driver but its not budging and I don't want the damage the top or bodywork. How did you remove the seal when doing yours? Any tips would be appreciated.
