DIY muffler delete

I have just acquired a 2007 2.5i. I want more exhaust sound. No one is selling aftermarket exhaust systems here in Norway, and importing something becomes way to expensive because of VAT and shipping cost. So my question is; would it be a good idea to do a back box delete? Would it drone a lot? And most importantly; is this something I could do myself on a budget? I have a mig welder and limited experience welding.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. A back box delete sounds great when you first start it up, but when driving it is LOUD. Just too loud and the amount of pops and bangs when coming off the throttle is embarrasing.

I definitely wouldn't do it, but there are some on here who love it, so like all these things it's horses for courses.

The way it sounds is ultimately subjective, but whatever you decide, just bear in mind it will be very boomy in the cabin at cruising speeds (3-3.5k rpm) - a mate of mine who loved his finally confessed to me he used to use earplugs to drive it long distance

I like a bit of exhaust noise, but having heard a 3.0Si that had the back box removed it's much louder than I could live with for any longer trips! :o

Doing something like this might be a better idea:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=62691

I bought an E86 coupe with back box delete......friends thought it sounded great. But they weren't sitting in the car.
Driving at 60-65mph holding that speed up a hill so the engine is under a bit of load, it's ridiculous. Wife and I could barely have a conversation.

I got a back box fitted, sold the custom pipes and pulled some foam from the sound generator pipe....a much better solution to my mind, and ears!
