just followed this post

ran into the overvoltage issue, mentioned in the post above, followed the suggested solution and all worked out well

the resistor is a 1 kOhm 2W one

also built this harness to secure the jumper cables to the PSU housing

and taped around the pins for protection at the end

You might need thicker jumper cables and a larger contact area when soldering onto the PCB, the car can draw 30A during certain operations like water pump bleeding and ABS bleeding and most jumper cables are rated for short term loads so get very hot with sustained draw.
 
practicalities of coding ...

start with battery fully charged, connect PSU to mains and then to the car prepping for a long coding session

do you charge the battery during programming?

or the PSU will cover needed voltage, amper and the battery basically stays charged
