Not the Z4, but X5.
I have Brembo drilled discs that run at £600+ per set.
They are scored and need sorting, but well up on thickness so considering having them skimmed.

Several local companies do it 'on car' and wondered if at £60 it's worth it or good money after bad?

Anyone any experience good or bad?

I’m not familiar with having discs skimmed in situ but would offer this advice. Should you decide to have them skimmed in a lathe then I would ask the machine shop how they plan on doing the job. The best way to achieve trueness is to machine the outer face and then without removing the disc from the lathe chuck, skim the rear surface with a boring bar. This approach will ensure that the front and rear faces are parallel. I hope I’m not teaching you to suck eggs!

ok iam am such machinist and have been for 22 years (och)
wayne you are correct this would be the best way but in practice not always so easy depending on the size of lathe etc. The most important part CJ is to have the mating hub face and locating bore running true and try and machine equal amounts of both faces and of course the same amount of each disc. This will avoid uneven breaking ,wear etc.

Insist there do this, iam sure there know what there doing but it doesn't help in reminding them.

Guys - great technical points I can look into. Bottom line question is, is it worth doing? Will it make them serviceable or a waste of money,
Phil

I suppose its all down to to how deep the groves are and how much materials on the discs if there were standard discs i would say dont bother but like you say £600 for new its probably worth having a go.

Iam sure the guys doing this on the car will tell you if its possible or not, more to the point safe to do so.

A good local engineering company would be able to measure them very accurately and would probably do a more professional job and at £60 is about 1.5 hours labour ( yes i know us engineers are very cheep )
on a different note you would be surprise how many people would complain about that but dont have a problem paying a accountant or lawyer £200 an hour and that's for the office junior.
I got many a mechanic out of trouble with removing broken studs removing sized or colaps bearing etc and every one complains about the cost, normaly not much more then a good drink i even had a guy give me all his lose change out of his ash tray because he didnt have a fiver on him but had a wad of notes in his wallet.I told him not to bother coming back again.

Sorry rant over.
