Disa valve replacement.

Hey everyone, my 2003 3.0i has 74000klm, I wanted to update the Disa valve before it's too late. The BMW OEM part is 3x the price of an aftermarket version. Does anyone have a recommendation for an aftermarket part, or is it best to stay with the OEM part?

I bought the i3 automotive disa valve for my Z4 and it was a direct replacement, no issues at all.
 
Each to their own but I went with a kit that replaces the pin that falls out with a one piece shaft which screws into the disa body and an ally flap like the X8R kit, no chance of it coming out again. For a few quid more it’s a no brainer imo.

It's impossible for the pin to fall out when it's all fitted. More likely bits will break off and fall into the engine.

I used the i6 kit, but any of the above will be just fine. It's that replacement long pin that's the peace of mine part, especially when you see the small pin that comes out!
 
i6 or X8R is essentially the same kit. Both a mostly aluminium bit of kit, just different companies.

Both use a long pin to prevent any damage. Also I read about the pin as well, it’s impossible for the pin to simply fall out when driving, even with a broken flap. There isn’t enough space to permit this. So it can only fall out on inspection or total removal of the unit, so just be super careful when removing.
 
Personally if it was me and the valve still functioned (held vacuum) - I believe there's a guide on here, definitely on YouTube, that shows how to test it. I'd just do the rebuild. OEM part with upgrades.
 
I'm a bit concerned about the play in my disa. Would this be fixed with the upgrade? The ebay disa, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173816801637 seems too good to be true. But it's tempting to get one, and the kit.
