Disa valve issues! Picture included.

So, bought my E86 si back in September 20. Drove it for a year and knew from the off that one of the disa valves was rattling, never got work during the year of driving but thought it might be lacking some torque. No real driving issues with it apart from slight hesitation on WOT.
Fast forward to now and decided to get the big disa out and check it was loose and get a new item ordered and fitted. Disa out and the below pic tells you all you need to know!
Flap detached (now recovered from intake manifold, that was the rattle). Pin is nowhere to be seen or found. No damage to any valves or evidence that it smacked into the cylinder head on the way down.
Questions: Where is the pin? What was the original pin made of? Should I no rebuild until the little bugger is found?

Looking forward to some replies.

I only have M54 experience I'm afraid and these may be different. Is the pin just a short one that locates the top of the flap, or does it pass right through?
I'd definitely be looking for it before reassembly but it may prove to be elusive.
What would concern me is that even though it could be sat somewhere safe now, the change of flow caused by actually having a functioning flap may disturb it.

Edit: This shows the pin. Looks plastic to me.

Yeah I agree on the airflow being a bit more linear now and possibly finding and moving the pin. It is just a short pin the locates the top of the flap through the cage and allows it to rotate.

If plastic it would no doubt have been hoovered up and chomped by the valves. Worries me that it may be metal though.
Did you see the link I added?
Looks plastic?

Yes I did thanks. Just had another good look, shake and magnet session and nothing to be found. Going to put it back together and get a disa valve ordered.

Just wrapping this thread up. Fitted a new upper Disa valve and have just completed a 240 mile journey in the car. It’s running great. Happy days.
