Replacing my CCV system cured my M54B30's rampant thirst for oil. It was consuming about 1/2litre every 500 miles.themaxz4 said:Ski said:I'm going through oil way too much and don't know why, this isn't the norm for BMW straight 6's but for whatever reason's on my 3.0I have to pay more attention to..
The same with me.
My e85 2004 Z4 consumes more oil than expected and I do have to periodically top it up.
This was also highlighted to me 2 years ago when I bought the car from the previous owner.
It is assumed by many that it is we are pushing the car hard when in fact that is not the case. I actually am more of a conservative driver than a hooner and I still go through a relatively high amount of oil. My car is a 2.2 as well.
It's not an issue as I stay on top of it; it's just something to be aware of.
Of course, you can also rely on your oil warning light to come on but that has let me down recently when my car was serviced a month ago and the mechanic mentioned my car was very low on oil and that the oil warning lights are not always reliable (according to him...) Last year I did slack off a bit in checking my dipstick so no surprises there for me.
Hope this is of use to someone out there.
I also swapped to 5W40 from 5W30 when the odometer hit 150k miles.
Hasn't needed a drop in over 2000 miles since the last oil service.
Edit: holy thread revival batman!
