Diff Output Seals Quotes

My rear differential output seals are unsurprisingly weeping after 20 years and 83k. What has surprised me is the difference in quotes from 3 good Indy BNW garages.

Broadly these span £280 to £600+. The more expensive have assumed replacing exhaust gaskets and drilling out bolts, however these were replaced 1000 miles/a few months ago.

What do people see as a reasonable price for this work? I obviously want to go with the cheapest but worry they are missing something! Grateful for any advice.

I wouldn't even think they'd need to remove the exhaust! Maybe drop it off it's rear hanger, and then let it droop slightly. Undo the driveshafts and level away from the differential. I wouldn't have thought they'd need to remove it from the car (although it would be easier).

But if the bolts are only 1,000 miles old, it'd only be an extra 5-10 minutes to remove/replace the exhaust anyway...

The £600+ people are way overpriced IMO. We paid to have the driveshaft replaced on my wife's E92, and that was £3xx, including a new driveshaft (£150?), but is otherwise a very similar job, but with the added pain of fighting the shaft getting stuck in the hub which isn't relevant to the diff seals...

The parts themselves are cheap - here's the ones for my 3.0si (I suspect the same as your 2.5si, but even if not, it'll be that ball park) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/317748720927

Thanks mate, that’s all good to know (although proud owner of a 3.0 Si here!).
Based on that I’ve gone with the £281 quote at EMTEC Salisbury. I went back to the other garage, who are always excellent in what they do, and they did come down a long way - tbf they last saw the car before the gaskets and bolts were replaced, so full marks to their record keeping!

Ooops, sorry - I thought I read 2.5 in your sig, my apologies!

I think 281 sounds reasonable - hope it all goes well
