did the bridge test

there is this junction near us where a little test is carried out by a few in the know as a benchmark to evaluate performance. it was started by a local garage owner who confessed in the pub one night that he took my friends car down there after doing some work on it. he said, ipull out of this junction, floor it and see what speed i get to by the first bridge...... . first reaction, horror, my car will never be going to him. but then it niggles you , his record big v8 bmw, dont know the model,... 120. late last night , empty rd, the m, 129.ok bin there, done that, end of. :tumbleweed:
 
Also one here locally, but in the ///M you can struggle to get it slowed down enough for the next roundabout
 
no prob with that here as there are another two bridges, wonder what it would be at the second one ,must be another half a mile further, reckoin its going to be 145 + but the road bends a bit .... hmm not sure
 
Used to do that with hire cars. Realy steep up hill from a junction a few miles from here, with a mile post to the local town at the top of the hill. Fastest I ever got was 90, in a Prelude.

Grew out of such thing eventualy. :(
 
Frack me... yet another trait I have in common.

Yup, there is a hill, not far away where each car I've owned is... checked out.

Mum's the word... but I know the local Rozzers sometimes sit at the bottom, tucked back... waiting for the unwary...

Yes I have one of those round me too.

Off a roundabout and a nice sweeping left hander to a national speed limit sign. Test is to see what speed by the sign as it incorporates a good run around the roundabout first to slingshot off.

Very unscientific measurement obviously, but my old Honda Blackbird still holds my personal best, followed worrying closely by my old 911 turbo.
 
Yep I have a junction close to where I grew up. We all used to pull out hammer the loud pedal and see what we had on the clock by the time we reach the big barn. Pug 205 xs ( first car :wub: ) 60 ish vauxhall calibra ( 2nd car ) 65mph. fiat stilo abarth ( 4th car ) 65+ Audi TT 225 70 and the BMW Z4 3.0l 70 - 75mph and so much more fun getting to that old barn.

Especially pulling out off the junction with a touch of oversteer :D
 
Reminds me of an old Peugeot 106 I had.
It only went up to 120.
Well, that wasn't good as I live at 164. :tumbleweed:

Similar, but not quite the same sort of speeds: There were two speed bumps, approximately 200m apart in front of the old Royal Naval Engineering College in Plymouth. A succession of AX GTs, Nova SRIs, XR3is, E30 Bimmers etc (which should place it nicely in your heads in terms of timelines) all went for the record over time. Then one day some smart @rse turned up in a Westfield....

I used to time myself from Plymouth to Exeter on the A38 when I was young....
