did someone mentions relalibilty issue's

listen to this, 2010, 2.3i 8,000 miles on the clock.
took the car in today for an oil change, when i got the car the gears have always been stiff, pulling the gear level down, ie 2, 4 and 6 gear. i was thinking , its a new car and it will loosen up after a few miles. Well it did not so i mentioned it today, result it needs new gear box.

on top of that i also had a winding noise when ticking over, result, new fuel pump.

not bad for a bmw 2 year old with 8,000 miles

Nightmare. Sorry to hear that mate.

Sometimes I wonder about warranty repairs. It's probably easiest for BMW to replace the parts, but could the parts be repaired, which would cost less? Who knows.... :headbang:

I've NEVER had a BMW that hasn't had problems, although luckily not as bad as those.

I've had about 6 AUC BMWs (several 3 series and a few 1'ers) and also a brand new 2011 116d and now a brand new Z4.

ALL have had something wrong with them - the AUC cars I am sure could've been fixed before delivery, but I suspect they would have to pay for that out of the cars profit...whereas after delivery, its a warranty job?

The new 1'er had rattles and squeeky folding mirror, and the Z4 has a leak that its in the dealer for the 4th time!

I think quality control no longer goes hand in hand with the BMW brand. OK, there are always going to be some that slip through the net, and I guess some faults don't show up in pre-delivery etc, but my experience...to have something with all of them?

Yeah poor quality control and insufficient stress testing to ensure parts dont fail. Disappointing

eeeeew, mx5 is a girlie car. although it drives and handles nice, i cant bring myself to have one again..... yes i have had one too but would rather have a z4 with issues than an mx5 with none :D

I think any 2 seater convertible has that girlie tag to some extent :)

Seriously I do wonder if the Zed is actually worth 10K more than the Mazda. Only 2 reasons I went for the Zed was lack of boot space in the Mazda and my BMW dealer is actually very good.

I wouldn't have the Mazda over my Z3 though :)

Tim.

My wife has driven Toyota's for 20 years + and has never had a breakdown or any part replaced.
Come on BMW sort yourself out.

I think almost all manufacturers just bolt on new parts these days. The old gearbox will more than likely be reconditioned and used in another Z4.

yeah they do as they are usually small but you find that larger ones like the 3 or 6 series convertibles are more masculine as well as the sl500's..... i think the z4's are a tad more masculine due to the long bonnet and women not liking cars that arent so easy to park..... a proper girlie convertible has to be the ford ka and the 206cc, any guy driving one of those should have a word with himself

on a side note, if jap cars were so reliable a good friend of mine who owns a used jap parts garage would of gone out of business a long time ago.... however his business is thriving

Makes me think Mazda MX5 next time :)

Tim.

Could only ever consider an MX5 if:-

A. It came with an engine, which it doesn't.

B. It looked as good as a Z4, which it doesn't. (IMHO)

C. Most importantly, I could fit in one. Which I can't.

So never going to be on my list, dispite being a perfectly OK car. :poke:
