Hi All

I am thinking about doing some kind of detailing with the paintwork in my Black Z4 as in the sun all the swirl marks show up very badly.

Can anyone give me any advise on this please as I am a complete novice to anything other than a sponge and bucket of soapy water?

How much does this kind of work cost with a professional out of interest?

If you do a search there's loads of information on DIY detailing on the forum
A professional will cost you from hundreds to well thousands

I would get a detailer to do the work as you could do more damage. Will cost around £400 for a basic detail.

Otherwise watch these vids

Will teach you all you need to know

Your basic breakdown:

Clean car - removes surface contaminant
clay - Think the cars clean think again. Clay removes stubborn dirt tar and also previous wax and polish to start with a fresh surface no point in adding polish on wax then waxing it will dull the paint more.
quick detailer - removes residue
paint correction - scratches chips etc
quick detailer - remove residue
polish - with a DA or by hand. Smooths out the lacquer (aka scratches and swirls) reducing refraction therefore more shine
quick detailer - removes residue
wax and seal - the wax seals the paint from contamination. Step on is a man made wax as it lasts much longer 6-8 months then add a layer of carnuba which adds a deep shine but will need reapplying after 6 weeks.

If done properly will take two full days on a car that hasnt been done for a long time. It is complex and you need to understand how the layers of paint work to get the best result. The videos go through everything! And enjoy love doing mine

I can recommend a tuition day with a pro detailer. A few of us on here had one last year and learned a lot, even down to how to safely wet sand.

Wow, sounds like it's a lot more involved than I suspected. I have contacted the company below and they have recommended an 'enhancement detail' at £275.00 and takes them 1.5 days.

Essentially I have a lot of fine lines and swirl marks that I want to get rid of.

Has anybody heard of the above 'Magic Detail', they sound like they do a good job!
