Detailing a white car

Hey guys,

So ive been use to detailing a dark car and now with a white car, i am a bit worried about using my old polish that, on the description, has 'for dark coloured vehicles to give a deep shine'. I have found a lot of polish's stating for black or dark cars as i searched around the different products avail for purchase but did not come across any for 'white' or 'light' coloured cars. Also i have never used a sealant before. What is the process for detailing?

claybar
polish
wax
sealant
?

I have paint cleaner and scratchX sitting around. When in the detailing process should these be used?

For wax try Dodo Juice Light Fantastic or SuperNatural - buy perhaps a panel pot and see how you get on with it.

Although this article from Dodo Juice themselves shows that in reality the difference between waxes for darker cars and lighter cars is a subtle effect rather than dramatic -

basically it will take less than half the effort to acheive the same effect on a white car than on a black or dark colour, white is so much more forgiving, any paint though will deteriorate if neglected , a finish left to the elements without wax will oxidise , the longer its left the more oxidation and the more remedial work to correct up to the point where it wont be salvageable. nb, there is nothing different between the make up of light or dark colours bar the pigment, the light ones just dont show the flaws like the dark colours' mr miagi, he say, "wax on, wax off"

With owning a white car myself I understand Sephanite where you are coming from. Having tried waxing a white car I do struggle seeing where I have been and what I have missed (old age eyes not so good) I would love to detail my car but feel the hard work put in wouldn't really be seen. Everything on the market what have seen so far seems to be for dark colours as well.

i am going to try the dodo juice supernatural for white cars but i am looking for a really good polish&sealant to use on the car. I think the dodo juice wont leave a deep enough effect. Any recommendations?

Poorboys white diamond looks like a quick detailer. The description says its a product to be used between proper polishing and detailing

White Diamond is a polish and a filler, I use it on my Alpine Z, works really well. I wax it up with Collys 476, lasts a good 6 months....

For white you'll want to invest in some Autosmart Tardis tar remover and Iron X for before claying to remove a lot of surface contaminants. This will make your clay bar last longer as it won't get so chock filled with grime.

After a 2 bucket method wash, Spray the Iron X around the lower areas of the car, paying close attention to the areas around the wheels. Allow it to dwell for 10 -15mins then rinse off. Repeat process with the tar remover, but afterwards I apply more to a microfibre cloth and soak off any stubborn areas. Now use a clay bar and you will see that you're not claying a "still dirty" car.

i went with:

Wash
claybar using the water after wash
Dodo Juice Prime Lime
Dodo Juice Supernatural

i didnt know where the Quick Detailer should have gone in in this process but the results were good. I still prefered the Zaino work better though

QD isn't usually used when doing a main wash, more for little tidy up jobs. Although I've used it to clean up dust between layers of wax.

Looks good despite the cloudiness of the sky!

My previous experiences has been with Zaino on a Sapphire black z4. From the result on the zaino, i was very happy with the deep colour in the dark and the metallic paint sparkle in the light. The swirls were removed well with the zaino and the wax had really good life on the car

This is the first white car i have detailed. I am not sure if it is just me but the metallic in the paint did not pop! I made sure i did everything right and checked constantly in between polishes. If someone has been able to make white metallic paint sparkle, please let me know. Other then that, Dodo Juice Prime Lime removed most of the light swirls but left the bigger swirls on the car (even after 2 good coats of polish). The Zaino on the other hand took out some big swirls that really impressed me. Applying the Dodo Juice Supernatural was also i difficult task on a white car (im guessing for most waxes) as i could not see what i was doing. However, the wax does look great with great beading in the rain (had to drive in the rain the next day!!!).

Overall, not a bad product but i will be trying other products for future detailing adventures to try to achieve the shine i want

Did you see my thread? I used a spray wax which I think worked well. Might be worth trying the werkstat acrylic kit. And iron x and tardis the s**t out of your z4 first!
