Detailed a Ka

OK so not a Zed, but I purchased a 2002 Ford Ka for my daughter to learn to drive in. Long story but I won it on Ebay and although a sound car, it was dirtly and grimy beyond belief. I honestly supect not washed for years, until the Ebay trader slapped a bit of polish on it.

Anyway after serious cleaning (like taking some of the glass out, all seals off doors, windows, etc.) degreasing, washing, claying, and several hours of pc work though the levels, complete clean of the interior, applying new decals, badges and various trim items, wipers, etc. it's done.

Why bother - well it's a 'Collection' with full leather, aircon, cd player, electric windows and alloys (pretty rare for a Ka) and picked up for at least £1000 below it's retail value and I actually enjoy this stuff once in a while. More importantly my daughter just passed all her exams (9 of them in total with straight A/A* grades, plus a diploma in IT) making her one of the most highest achievers in the County at 16 (proud dad!!!) so I did my bit for her...

Awesome, you will no doubt be very chuffed about this, what a great achievement :smart:

Ka looks OK, I don't usually like them, but taken in context as a learner/first car it's very very nice indeed, and a far cry from what most of us learned in or had as a first car, and deservedly so.

That's a cute little car. Why the heck doesn't Ford have those HERE?

(Actually, why don't y'all send me a Cosworth???????? )

Very nice, and a great learner vehicle!

Its about to be replaced with a new version based on the Fiat 500...

I've seen the new one and I think they have missed the deal here. The idea of a Ka was to be an amazingly cheap car to buy, run and overall own, while being fairly stylish. You can see them on any drive in any type of owner as 1st to 3rd, 4th cars. Mainly targetted at the female driver, but as a learner and first car just perfect.

My local dealer is banging out the base last of the new ones at abround £4,600.The new one is to expensive, too big and look just like any other Euro box, but as a ford will probablystill sell well due to hire companies, corporates, etc.

Wow cheap for a new car isn't it, even if it is getting replaced. The new one will soon be on hire company lists everywhere, the roads will be inundated with them.

I'd not seen it but just looked this up, does that not look exactly like a Corsa, but a bit smaller?

its not an automatic. :driving:

I'm not sure the original is even available in auto (but it may be) More importantly as a 'learner' car it has to be manual. If you take your test in an auto you are only licenced to drive an auto, unless you later resit.

Well it rained heavily and I snapped a poor quality picture of the little Ka.

I guess I got the detailing close enough as I achieved the almost perfect run off beading pattern. Dead centre top of roof radiating out to the 4 corners boot to bonnet. Doubt I could do that again if I tried :)

Nice beading indeed!

And the race car in the background is?

Ah another frequent visitor to the CJ10 household. A competitor in the Lotus One challenge series that 'hangs around' with Miss CJ Snr.. She of the Cooper S JCW

Never a dull day around my house... :driving:

I ran a Ka for a while after my stroke, it was fun to go from that to a Zed :P

very nice, i ran a few of these in my earlier years of motoring! Great fun little car, and a super chasis- like an update of the orginal mini! :driving:

Dad bought me a new one of these after i came back from travelling to tide me over for a few months until id sorted out my "return".

Ended up keeping it 18months as i really liked it (red of course) and ended up in london, where it's totally practical. Quite chuckable too, but very disapointing mpg. Got a twin spark Spider next and 18m later the //M.. but would definitely recommend the Ka to anyone... :driving:

I had a Ka for my first car. Well it was actually a SportKa with the bigger engine etc. but still, a great first car. Your daughter will love it.
This was mine

So when does the twin-exit exhaust & bumper modification start :poke:

The bumper was modified by someone driving into it 3 weeks ago and repairs just finished. Required new bumper and rear axle :(

Of course :headbang:

I now remember you saying how cheap & easy it was at the cruise

You should have done the bumper mod then, it seems a waste to do it all over :P
