Depressing...but onwards and upwards..!

I knew it was bad but having a proper look under the M reveals a sorry sorry sight, so much corrosion on the hubs, suspension arms, steering rack, bush housings etc, just all over, etc, this on a 39k mile 2006 car. A diff oil leak as well as, I ‘think’ just rocker cover oil leak. Engine is as sweet as you’ll hear, gearbox is excellent, much less notchy than my previous high owner car, so nothing expensive on the horizon hopefully. Good news is zero corrosion anywhere on the floor pans, or underside other than running gear. The plan is a full car strip down, engine and box out, subframes, the lot, all panels off to correct any corrosion on the bumper brackets, inner wings etc, although they should be fine hopefully. Then a concours rebuild. I have both wet vapour and dry soda blasting cabinets ready to go for my new business venture, so the M will be a donor for for photos of blasted parts for a website. I’ve never tackled anything this detailed before so I don’t know how it’ll end up, in my mind it’ll be as new but how well it’ll go...who knows...!

Planned :

New OEM bushes all round
KWV3 coil overs (bought)
AP 6 pot fronts (Bought 2nd hand) 4 pot new rears. Braided lines all round.
Vibratech engine mounts
RTAB limiters
Remus back boxes (Bought)
OEM CSL’s in hyper silver (Bought but needing a refurb) MPS4 tyres
Schrick fast road cams with DLC followers
Walnut blasting
New rod bearings
Vanos rebuild
New clutch

Thats a lot of work ahead of you.
I thought a concours build was done only using original parts.

Depends Nictrix, there are classes for modified concours as well as original. Beedub enters modified class too, his car is the benchmark...!

Didnt know there were different classes, I just thought if you were doing this to enter concours shows it might not do very well if its got non- original parts. Looking at the parts list though it should be better than standard.

I’ve no plans to enter shows really, I don’t know if I can get it up to that standard, I’m doing it as I’ve always wanted to do a rebuild on something and this is ideal, plus the standard suspension is pretty dire, too harsh. Everything planned should be an improvement.

So....was it parked in the sea? I mean jaysus.... genuinely curious, how did it get like that? Mines an 07 and parked on the street so wondering if I need to get it on a lift 😄

The exhaust clamps have been known to be a weak point with corrosion ... cheaper to pay the £20 or so quid on fleabay for a stainless steel set rather than have them drop off on the road 👍

I honestly don’t know how it’s got so bad tbh M340, no idea if this is the norm and mostly hidden unless you get it on a ramp sire.

That doesn’t look that bad underneath, nothing that can’t be made shiny again especially with what you’ve got tucked away in that man cave extraordinaire
