Dension Gateway Lite - Install help

Hi all,

I've been trying to install the Dension Gateway Lite this afternoon, after the air vents reducing me to near tears it seems I am 80% there but I'm having a few teething problems...

When I select the CD changer the music from the iPod plays few a second or two and then the stereo switches to the radio. If I disconnect and reconnect everything it plays from the iPod fine but when I switch to radio and try to go back to iPod it only play for a send and switches back to radio. Any ideas why?

I was going to unplug the dension wiring harness from the back of the head unit and try again another day but the quadblock connector does not want to release now! Feels as though I am going to break it if I force it any more.

It's worth noting my car has the business head unit (no nav) and has a CD changer, has anyone who has installed one of these got any advice? Also i presume the existing CD changer was the white connector? Do I leave this in or remove it?

I should not be trying this in 26°C...

Any advice is greatly welcomed!

have you unplugged the cables from the actual cd changer unit?
there's an ibus connector back there, and if it's still plugged in, it'll try and respond to the headunit as well as the denison... which will cause major confusion.

x2. Was about to say this, you need to unplug the cd changer altogether. You can access it through the boot, you may need some pliers to pull the plug out though, nearly ripped my nail off trying to do mine!

I am having issues with similar problems. I have the nav bluetooth and cd changer. I unplugged both the three pin and six pin from the back of the changer unit.

I can change tracks

The ipod says connected

But I have no volume

I swapped the black plug on the back of the head unit to the quad lock and I disconnected the white plug where the ipod connects

If I turn the volume to the max I can hear it faintly

Any ideas??!!

To access the rear of the cd changer am I just removing the carpet? There's a circle bit of plastic on string, what should I do with this?

There are four plastic plugs two on the left which should be sufficient to lift the carpet

You will see the cd changer just to the right of the plug you refer to

no need to remove, just free up the two clips either side and then lift the carpet in the middle.
only need to raise it about 3-4 inches to see the back of the changer.

ignore the plastic bit with string - thats the rear central console release thingymajig

is it the denison?

SUCCESS! Seems to be working as it should. Thanks so much guys! Now to tidy everything up. Looks like I can run the cable for the dension through a small hole leading to the glovebox?

yep.. best way is to open the glove box so that it hangs down and you can see the fuses (two catches in the roof of the box).
with it down, you can easily route the cable from the headunit / central dash area across and in, plus cable tie it in place if needs be.

glad you got it working

I'm just looking into getting a dension 300, I have the professional sound system with cd changer (no nav). Do the controls on the steering wheel still work with the dension? Ie change track, change volume etc.

Also, I've been having issues with my oem Bluetooth, so have been considering the 500 as an all round problem solver. Does the dension 500 connect up to the oem microphone and controls or does it have its own setup? Thanks in advance.

I have the 500, it's a great bit of kit, steering controls still work, it doesn't use the OEM mic I just ran the supplied mic onto the very corner of the driver's sunvisor, it has really good soundquality and i can have a decent conversation with the roof down :)

I really struggled with this when fitting my Dension, it felt like threading a needle blindfolded. I was putting it through the gap by the right hinge of the glovebox - is that correct or could I have saved myself a lot of trouble by doing it another way?

I have the Gateway Pro and absolutely love it. I have the basic Business head unit, but all steering wheel controls work and the song names show up on the display (I'm connecting it via bluetooth to my iPhone). As willgill says above, the sound quality is great.

I routed my mic out from the glovebox, tucking it into trim along the way, and ending up just behind the steering wheel. I am sometimes a bit cack-handed with the phonebook though and end up accidentally dialling people when I try to back out of the menu!

When I did mine the connection is made from the multi-CD connector which is accessed via the boot, not sure if the 300 is the same
