Depends how much you buy the donor parts for.
As an example, I paid £70 for one clear headlamp and £65 for the other, then had to buy a dremel and sealant. Probably cost about £180 for the headlamps.
Clear Side repeaters cost about £15 each.
Rear lamps, I bought the clear ones and tinted them. They were £100 from ebay.de and then spray tint was about £10.
So all in it cost me at least £320.
You can do it for cheaper. Red tint your orange rear lights, dark tint your side repeaters and use a template to make your own clear hockey sticks, but I wanted OEM stuff which I think looks better.

Splitting the lights is not a job for a novice. Needs equipment as posted above, clean work area, steady hand and level of confidence to avoid making a pigs ear of it.

There's the difference as I would not describe you as a novice...
For someone who has no diy experience, using a dremmel to carefully cut open a lights, torx screws to dismantle the inside and rebuild the parts, extreme care to avoid contamination, fingerprints, etc on lenses of reflectors, then reseal it to be watertight is fraught with opportunities to screw up. For sure if care is taken and the job not rushed anyone can do it, just as most car mechanic jobs can be done.
