Debadging

Thinking about removing the S-drive badge from the front wings to clean up the lines a little.

Experimented in Photoshop to get a before / after comparison.

I really don't want to change the look of the car from it's standard setup, but kinda like the cleaner lines.

So, I'm torn.

Yay or nay?

I find debadging similar to a stubby must have, i.e. a fad. Personally I prefer the badges, only plus I see is when waxing.

I'm wanting to de badge mines come the spring. My last car was de badged, just looked cleaned in my opinion. Infact I've had my cars de badged for over 12 years now so not a fad to me, just my taste

However be aware if you don't like it the badges are rather pricey

Keep wondering if it's a good idea on mine as I also like the clean lines did it on my last one and it looked good infact speced it as a factory option at first and then changed my mind its always handy to have the badges, in the case of my last one put one back on to cover a mark that some t--t had put on it.

I understand about clean lines and personal choice but " debadging ? - not for me - I'm quite proud of the logo - feels a bit like when you see a chavved up Corsa with all badges taken off to try to convince everyone it's got a Ferrari engine ( sorry to all you debadgers that's a bit harsh ) Incidentally if you had a Ferrari would you debadge it ?

As you've guessed I've always been an advocate of originality - particularly with earlier models of these great looking cars - my only concession to my 2004 SE is a set of MM's tips

I would certainly hang on to the badges though - you'll need to put them back on when you sell.

I think it's a stupid place to put them to be honest but seems to be something BMW are liking to do. New F series having little M badges added there.

The only person the badge matters to is the owner. As it's on the side nobody sees it and most drivers just see a BMW which gives them the god given right to sit right on your rear even if you have a rather powerful engine under the bonnet.

Incidentally if you had a Ferrari would you debadge it ?

As for would you de badge a Ferrari? Last time I checked they don't tend to have silly plastic badges over them saying F430 or 360 etc. They do have a Ferrari badge which you wouldn't remove just like BMW owners tend not to remove the BMW badge just the model inscription.

Also why would you need the badges? As Debadge is an option for the new owner it could of been that way when they bought it. I certainly didn't have BMW saying pay us X because we now need to re badge your debadged car that was ordered this way

Mine came debadged from factory, but had it not, I would have taken them of myself.

Good lad best way is a hair dryer to warm the badge and then a bit dental floss to take it off. Also you may want to invest in something that will remove the sticky residue. A tar remover product should so the trick

As if the E89 badging wasn't already excessively long, I was playing around with the BMW configurator and noticed they now have the little M badge on the wings, too.

Dab with sticky stuff remover and warm with hairdryer. Then use fishing wire to slice through the adhesive and pull off. I them use a touch of wd40 to get off the remaining residue. Always wash off with warm water. Takes 10 mins max.

I left the Z4 badge on mine as it looks ok on the e85... But I'd take it off the e89. Prefer the clean look, but it's a personal choice I guess. Not seen the minis, will keep an eye out.

So the Z4 is now getting that treatment. To be fair the 35is really should be a M but if it was it would cost mucho monies. Not quite sure why BMW seem to be devaluing the ///M badge by sticking it on everything in sight. Maybe they realise that Halfords do a cracking bit of business with all chumps that stick the badges on their cars even if the trim level wasn't M Sport or the old name of club sport which was pre 2003.

Wonder if these can be deleted just like on the other models which have been given this treatment. My dad noticed this first on a new 3 and was asking what was going on. I thought he was going mad but sure enough it's there as an option that can be removed.

The problem with the side badges on the e85/86/89 is that they all look a bit aftermarket anyway!

I will be debadging my e86 soon for a few reasons:

A) - Looks cleaner
B) - lack of symmetry on the boot at present!
C) - Loads of people don't know what it is anyway.... so it'll be nice to add to that!
D) - It's more fun surprising people that don't know how quick these things are!

I'd say go for it.

Even my Merc has a deabdged boot. Who actually wants to have C220 on one side and CDI on the other!? Looks smarter without it.
