Deal of a life time, chosing between a fine breed of cars

well well, its nice to see so many people come together and express an infinite pool of opinion i have here.. i stand truly obliged by everyone here

so yes for starters, this early on in my career i do understand a ride is not a good place to invest.. things like these you buy with the heart and not the head.. but i am laying cash aside for grad school and after 2-3 years (the amount of work experience they usually require while opting to admit) ill have enough to pay my way through that.. and maybe then, i can think abt the cars everyboy has posters on his walls, the 911gt3, aston matrin dbr or the ferrari 599.. ground reality is, im nowhere near that for now

right, so getting back to chosing one.. i think ive narrowed down my choices to 3.. and these are according to personal preferance

04' bmw z4 3.0
03' bmw m3
04' mercedes slk 200 (my apologies for mentioning the 03 earlier, the new shape is within my budget)

i guess im more torn between the z4 and m3.. m3 is sheer driving pleasure, no doubt abt that and yes it does have 4 seats, but the z4 is not bad either.. and when it comes to looks its either the love or hate extreme with that car and me not being married or having kids i can live with a roadster, the hard thing abt roadsters is that they cant be judged on paper alone for performace.. its abt the drive and sensation you get out of it while driving and owning one.. suddenly making stops outside conveniant stores and places of interest all makes sense.. anyone who'se owned both the m3 and z4 share his opnion?

as for the slk-200 lets think outside the box for it being a beauty saloon headed milf's car, cuz in my country i.e saudi arabia women folk dont drive.. hard to imagine for most guys, agreed (lets leave that for the poltical forum for now) .. but lets judge the car on how it performs, looks and feels to drive and own

and once again, thank you all for your opinions

am i missing th boat or are cars way more pricey overseas??

Horrendously so. I do not know where the original poster is based, but UK prices are far higher, and annoyingly its not just down to taxes (17.5% VAT on a new car), you guys just get the same cars much, much cheaper....

UK Z4 3.0 Roadster - £27,645 / $55,184 USD + Options + 17.5% VAT (£33,510 / $66,890 USD incl VAT)
US Z4 3.0 Roadster - £21,242 / $42,400 USD + Options + Taxes

Welcome to the forum!

Here's my two cents...

Why not lease? If you've already predetermined you want to do mods on the car, then you will have to buy... but I find leasing to be the better option. For about $2,500 at signing and $540+ a month, you can get a 2008 Z4 for two years with decent amount of options... then lease the next generation Z4 once your lease is up. It looks like you have the dough for it... this way, you get to keep about half the money in the bank.

I saw a silver Nissan 350Z outside my office yesterday... didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me and yet it was parked right in front of me (I was no more than 20 feet away from it). My point is, with certain cars, you don't notice their "WOW" factor as well as the Z4. The 350Z actually looks plain jane to me - ironically, like those futuristic Tron cars that are actually out of date these days.

When you see a clean Z4 on the street... you can't help but stare at it and admire the sleek curves.

If you're talking performance, Z4 is up there as well.

04' bmw z4 3.0
No offense to anyone on this forum, but I wouldn't touch a Z4 unless it was 2006 or later. Just my personal preference.

07'audi tt 2.0
Exterior looks to bubbly to me... like a beefier VW Bug.

03' bmw m3

03 porsche boxster
Why not pay a little more and get a cayman?

07 alfa romeo 159
07 pontiac g8 gt
07 lexus is300
04 bmw 530i
03 mercedes slk 200
Mercedes is an old man's car.

:driving: a test drive at the bmw pre-approved center here in riyadh, and im completly sold to the z4.. i tried the e46 m3 too, but the awesome driving postion of the z4 and the whole roadster thing won me

in comparisson to the m3, but i certainly felt that the z4's minimalistic appearnace of the cabin and the better interior build quality was just another level.. to the people at South Carolina i saulte your workmanship! this seems to be a better package for me overall..

oh btw, check out this z4 video on youtube

yea, fortunately or un-fortunately depeding on how you look at it.. banks or financial instituions dont offer lease here, we just have the plain ol auto loans at about 4.5% apr no matter what your credit score is.. come to think of it, we dont have credit scores either :D

I am amazed by that, I have had both and IMO the Z4 is a big step down in build from the E46 - plastic quality and fit and finish not even close...

Still love mine though :)
