DCT Question - D mode to Sport to Manual

Hi, just a quick one.

Am i missing a trick or if you go:

D mode, gearstick to Sport Automatic mode then manually change gear there is no way to return the car to Sport Automatic mode without flicking the gear leve to D and then BACK to sport?

I find myself in sport mode often, manually change gear for a corner/blip it down just because it's awesome, but then unless I move it back to D and then back to Sport it will remain semi-auto. Not a complaint at all but a question!

Thanks

If you leave the gear stick in sport auto (pushed to left) when you manually change gear using the paddles it starts to monitor your driving style.

It will stay in manual mode whilst you accelerate / keep changing gears with the paddles, but when you calm down after about 10 seconds it blips back into sport auto mode & changes the gears for you as normal.

No need to push the stick back right / then back to left - it does it itself.

With the DCT It will just hold the gear until you either drop below 1.4k revs or hit the red line.

I've been pondering the same questions as you and nothing I've tried will get the box back into sport auto without moving it to D and back into S.

I have heard that in other cars holding the change up paddle will move it back into S rather than M but it doesn't work with the Z.

I don't actually use M mode much at all. I find the paddles a bit annoying since they are mounted on the wheel.

Mine only holds manual mode indefinitely if you have it in sport auto (gear to left) AND in sport + on the traction control.

All other combinations it drops back into auto mode.

Changes back after a maybe 10 seconds if traction in 'comfort', 20 seconds if traction in 'sport', holds it manual if traction in 'sport +'.

May be different on a 35is - but that is definitely how it is on mine.

Perhaps it changed during an update but my car is the same as R.E92.

I tested it on the way home yesterday and the car will not leave manual mode until it A) drops to a near stall or B) Hits the redline. Odd quirk I guess and will continue to flick from S to D to S to return to Sport Auto.

Car has just had the gearbox flashed at a BMW main dealer so I presume it is the most recent versioon.
