Daytime Running Lights

I have a UK 2006 2.0i Sport and one of the dealer programming options is "Daytime Running Lights"..... but both dealers I have asked cannot tell me exactly what they are!!

I don't have Xenon lights, just std ones. Has anyone had Daytime Running Lights activated on std headlights and do they look like Angel Eyes?

Advice appreciated. Forum always more useful than a dealer

It will activate only the low beam headlights. The same as have the light switch on without the tail lights or from running lights. Not Angel eyes.

Daytime running lights are not a cosmetic thing, they are on for safety...just makes other drivers/pedestrians more aware of your moving car.

If a driver/pedestirian can’t tell your moving then your driving to slow :fuelfire:

Agreed, but here in SoFL I take no chances...know what I mean?

I thing i do

things here in the UK are starting to get the same. soon one more fun :(

Driving fast does not mean you are driving well. :( One of the high school girls here was driving fast and having a good time last Friday and she will not be graduating with the rest of the kids next week. :( She will be under the grass in a nice cemetery. But she sure could drive fast.

In some parts of where I live, it is mandatory to have your lights on during the day for safety. If it is dark and gloomy out, which it is most of the time here, it helps to have your lights on. My S-10 truck automatically has them on and you have to disable it to have them turn off. I had the dealer program my Zed to have them turn mine on whenever I start the car. :)

Personally dodging the soccer moms and other folk give me the feeling like I'm racing, also it gives an excuse to swerve. Makes for an interesting drive :P

Hey guys, many thanks! I now know they are not like Angel Eyes :(

I always put my lights on in dull light, we get a lot of mist here too being by a huge lake, so may still get them activated on the safety front.

Happy WeekendZ everyone!

A good reason for DRL's is for dark cars, if your driving on a bright sunny day down a lane into a tree overhung stretch, it can be vary difficult to see a dark coloured car coming the other way.

I tend to put my light on for this reason.

I would expect that DRL's will become the norm in the UK within 5 years. Working in Poland (of course part of the EU) a fair bit last year I saw they changed the law to make it manadatory. It looks odd in mid Summer, but sensible in those twighlight seasons.

Motorbikes have done it for years, but I do hate them using main beam as I'm sure that's more danger than safety :(

I was going to mention that, more and more bikes seem to be using full beam through the day. Even in full daylight it's very bright if you happen to look directly at it, to the extent that you try and not look directly at the bike, which is far more dangerous. Why do they do it?

Crazy :scratchhead:

I am so sorry to hear about the HS senior who will not be graduating-- I am the parent of 3 teenagers, I always worry about their safety, crazy drivers who do not respect the traffic laws!

The parents must be really feeling the lost--words cannot describe the pain---!!!!!!!!!!!!

God Bless them,

Bob

I have a silver gray car and I live in an area that has a lot of gray skies and of course the roadways are a shade of gray as well.

Simple reality - I want to be seen. There is nothing to be gained by other drivers not knowing exactly where my car is when I am on the roadway.
Yes I turn my headlights on on almost all occasions when I am driving my car :smart:
