DASHBOARD RATTLES & VIBRATION IN MY Z4MC

Hi there,

I am new to this Forum, so thought I would put the feelers out having just purchased my beloved Z4MC about a month ago.

I have been through lots of threads and tried to gauge what's best. Basically, I understand that the car is prone to noises, mine is vibrating all over the place from inside the dash, end to end and various noises and locations depending on revs or speed. Some times its like a Orchestra of Humming Birds, Bees and Locusts! It's driving me nuts.

Has anyone ever tried removing the Dash entirely? I am considering doing this, armed with felt tape and some acoustic sponge and pinning anything that looks like it could rattle.

Please - has anyone got the solution to my 'M fury'?!

:-/

I have an intermittent rattle from either the cup holder or the air vent on the passenger side. I can touch the cup holder but not quite deploy it whilst driving and the vent is well out if reach, so determining which is proving frustrating. It never seems to do it when I have a sympathetic passenger either :headbang:

If you don't have something rattling in the cabin then there is something wrong with your car! :)

i have 2 rattles at present

1) the nav screen
2) something up inside the glove box

I just turn up then music of my MP3 or the engine :)

Thanks

even with as stiff setup car as mine, my roadster hardly has any rattle.... unless i can't hear them over the exhaust ??? lol

Roof down its creak free and quiet.

Roof up it creaks and there's always some strange creek and niggle inside the dash behind the stereo.

Like many others, simply turn up the music and press the smiley pedal.... :D

An observation but 19" wheels caused my non ///M to rattle around the cup holders, door panels etc. creaks and rattles started as soon as the went on - went back to 18's and it's much better.

Not rattles, more crashes! Painted road markings seem to have changed from 2D to 3D since upgrading the suspension

Hi and welcome.

It's worth checking the braces in the engine bay, they can come loose at the bulkhead end.

At certain speeds mine has a light buzzing rattle in the boot somewhere... i suspected it was related to the storage blind thing but maybe it isnt. I'll shove the Mrs in the boot and drive around for a bit to figure it out.. one day. :D

My dashboard rattled on my old roadster but I had read the are prone to it so I just accepted it but I totally appreciate why it would drive you mad and I hope you find the issue

19" wheels, rubbish lowering springs and run flats, get rid of last two with coilovers and normal tyres and if u can live with tiny 18" change them too to have a smoother ride also replace bushes to really help.

Jonny, ///M's don't have run flats, and I see no mention of lowerig springs in the OP's post.

WOW!!

A great response, thanks to all of you for you comments. I can at least feel like I am not the only one.

I have a just had an inspection 2 carried out and the Car's Strut Brace and Engine Mounts are serving well. It is such a familiar story, as people seem to be able to locate the noises, yet pushing and prodding doesn't yield its exact source. The cup holders are just crap IMO and would appear to be one source of nuisance, but I think the biggest troubles could lie within the Heater/ Air Con matrix behind the scenes... who knows ?!

Lucky to all those who don't have the rattles yet, but I think your time will come!!

At least now I feel part of the same happy family! :D
