Dashboard finish????

I have looked at two z4 recently and both of them look as if the top of the dashboard has had something used on it for cleaning and it went badly wrong. The dealer tells me they are like this to stop glare going to the windscreen. One car had 600 miles on it and the other 3000. Both dashboards were black in colour. Thanks in advance.

Mine has some shiny areas to it.

any suggestions how to rectify? looks like dealer has wiped off the matt finish somehow.

Well...it should be a matt/flat finish look. There's no shine what-so-ever with the 'basketball' dash material. Can you share some pictures?

If you mean does the top side of the dash look a bit patchy, then that was my opinion also of all the cars I saw. Mine is like it too, wouldn't worry.... just buy one and enjoy!

If you do clean the dash, you need to make sure you use a cleaner which is designed for matt finsihes - otherwise it does make it patchy.

I have a pack of these in the boot, and they do a nice job not shining up the dash!

I use Aerospace 303 Protectorant on both my black vinyl and black leather. It gives a beautiful matte-like patina to both. Furthermore, 303 is one of the best UV protectorants this is.

You have answered my question. It is dull and does look patchy. It was the patchiness that was concerning me as I thought maybe the sun or something had done it, even though we have not had much sun. Thanks.

I have never understood why anyone uses anything other than a chammy for this. :roll: My dash still looks as new as it did the day it was fitted.
