Hi all,

How the heck do I clean the dimpled rubbery stuff that our dashboards are made out of..?

I've got loads of white marks appearing wherever it's been touched and I was wondering if there was a knack to getting them off and prevented..? :?

Cheers,
Nige.

A damp microfibre will get those white marks off. Not sure why white marks are left though - has never done it in any other cars I've owned!

If that doesn't shift it (it should), then get some APC from your local supermarket. I use Stardrops - about 70p. Don't forget to dilute it!

Thanks IK,

Just been out and all the white marks have now gone with the help of the damp microfibre as per your suggestion...

I use the Auto Glym interior trim dressing, it puts a nice sheen on the dash without a nasty shine.

The dash is an annoying dust collector. What is the reason for the 20 grit sand paper texture anyway? :x

This stuff is great if you can get it over there.

This has to be done to reduce glare and at the same time give a surface that does not show easily show scratch marks. It's a sod fro collecting dust and grime though, especially on a soft top.

I've cleaned mine twice in six months. It really is, imho, a very good dash material!

You can rub it with a stray foot (jumping in the car with doors shut), knock it, touch it all over, and it never really gets damaged or shows marks. It is easy to clean with a quick vacuum with a soft brush, then a damp microfibre :)

Fantastic imho :)

Don't get me wrong I'm agreeing with you that it's a practical surface. I had a car with a smooth dash and someone slid a clipboard onto it and left a deep score for the rest of my period of ownership
Door pockets as you say get caught with feet too and soon leave marks but not too bad on the Zed to clean off.

I see that this is an old thread but has anybodyt come up with anything better than

Auto Glym interior trim dressing..

I will go and get a bottle over the weekend I think, the inside of the car needa a little TLC

Followed IK's suggestion too, bought an eCloth Microfibre from Waitrose, used damp, worked brilliantly! Got rid of all the white marks.

No idea why they are white though. If you touch the dashboard with your dry hand, the dash will go white there.

It's probably white due to the amount of dead skin cells you've left behind on the rough surface.

But even when I have a TomTom on the screen during a forum car trip, when it falls off on the dash - it leaves a white mark when I have not touched it.

If you have the piano black trim you can stick it to the left of the stereo instead.

No, I have the carbon leather. The forum trips are only a few times a year and a TomTom falls off not that often, was just a comment that even a non human contact leaves white marks for some reason.

I only ever notice it after scuffing a knuckle or scraping a finger when sticking the TT on in the first place - if I'm using it stuck to the window rather than the dash (dash for night driving as it doesn't impair my night-vision).

I have just used Auto Glym Rubber and Plastic stuff
The longer you leave it on, the more shiny it gets - Quick wipe across the dash is all it needs and a little bit longer contact time on the doors.

Looks good

Poorboys World Natural Look Dressing is the dogs danglies for dash and interior trim:

Just spray some on a slightly damp microfibre, wipe and leave to dry. It will clean and condition in one go giving some UV protection to stop fading. Leaves a matt, non sticky/greasy finish that doesn't attract dust. It also smells amazing and will leave the car smelling great for a while.

Best bit - it's water based so does a great job of the leather too.
